Lincoln's Shanghai dealership, up-close and personal

Dec 09, 2014 - 5:21 AM - by paul8488
While we have all seen pictures of the new concept for Lincoln dealerships in China, it's always nice to visit and person and see how it translates to real life. I was able to get there last weekend for a visit, and come away very impressed. After seeing the photos and reading about Lincoln's China concept I knew they were onto something, and the showroom shows very well...

The Lincoln store isn't in a particularly busy or automotive area, but has decent visibility from an elevated roadway in front. What's refreshing is how simple and elegant the design of the building is; in general, the Chinese aren't known for their architectural restraint, so this store is pleasing to the eyes. I'm not sure if this dark brown is a Lincoln 'thing', but it works very well, both inside and out.

Before I even got to the building I saw three transport trucks full of MKZs and MKCs being unloaded! This is the first time I've seen either in the flesh, and there was a whole range of colours. I know some love and some hate these... [Read More]

VIDEO: 2015 Mustang First Drive

Improving an icon
by Mike Schlee

Someone must be spiking the drinking water around the Detroit area with a combination of Red Bull, methanol and epinephrine. What else can explain the onslaught of American sports cars coming out of Michigan lately?

Last year Chevrolet introduced the world class C7 Corvette Stingray while also creating the most track-focused muscle car of all time: the Camaro Z/28. Over at Dodge, a hydrogen bomb was lobbed into the horsepower wars with the introduction of the 707-hp Challenger Hellcat. Mopar fans looking for a bit more style and a few more cylinders, theres good news as the sinister Viper is still available.
A Legend Reborn

Meanwhile at Ford, a pair of ST hothatches are redefining front-wheel drive performance. But thats not the biggest news coming out of Dearborn. No, this year an automotive icon is being born anew: the Ford Mustang.

2015 marks the 50th anniversary of the Mustang, which is quite an achievement. Not often does one nameplate survive a half-century in existence, especially one that has stuck to the same basic formula the whole time. But with sales

FIN Exclusive: 2016 Lincoln MkX Spy Shots

We Finally Get a Glimpse of the Next Gen Mid-Size CUV

After just a couple of weeks following the debut of the all-new Ford Edge, FIN has acquired spy shots of its sister vehicle, the 2016 Lincoln MkX. The next generation mid-size luxury crossover will be very important to the resurgent Lincoln brand as the MkX will be their third product for the important Chinese market.

Previewed with a concept shown at the Beijing Auto Show in April, our spy shots show a highly camouflaged vehicle testing in Dearborn, Michigan earlier this year. Though most of the soft points have been hidden, we can tell that the 2016 production model will hold true to the concept's design language, as expected.

The bow-wave split wing grill that debuted on the Lincoln MKZ is retained, as is the slight kick up in the window line just before the C-pillar like the recently launched MkC. The production version appears to retain the pillared side mirrors of the concept as well.

The production version, however, appears to be shorter than the concept indicating it might not ride on a lengthened version of the Edge platform as did the concept.... [Read More]

First Drive: 2015 Ford Super Duty and Expedition

Engine Improvements Make These Updates Worthwhile

“Almost Heaven, West Virginia” was where FIN was invited to drive the new 2015 F-Series Super Duty and Ford Expedition. The scenery and serenity beautifully mixed with the beast-like nature of the vehicles tested. Also, with steep grade hill climbs and switchback narrow country roads, it turned out to be the perfect place to test the capabilities of the refreshed truck and SUV.

Super Duty

Although it does not appear to have changed at all for the 2015 model year, the most important part of the F-Series Super Duty has: the volume selling Scorpion 6.7-liter Diesel V-8 Powerstroke engine. The engine is now rated at a mind-blowing 440 horsepower and 860 foot-pounds of torque. We had the privilege to both drive and be driven in the Super Duty in different weight classes and different tow weight hauls.

One of the key improvements to the engine was the replacement of the turbocharger from the GT32 to the GT37... [Read More]

Even on the back of June records for both the Fusion and Transit Connect, Ford sales fell 5.8 percent in June mostly due to the 11.0 percent drop from F-Series. This was to be expected with the F-150 switchover taking as much as 70,000 units off storeroom floors in the next few months.

The Focus saw a rebound month as sales climbed 13.1 percent. The Expedition is faring well ahead of the facelift's launch with a 43. 9 percent climb.

The biggest drop off was seen by the Fiesta, whose sales fell 31.1 percent.

In product news, the all-new Ford Transit launched with a total of 490 units sold. Last month's debut, the Lincoln MkC, saw 684 units as the rollout continues its slower path.
