Ford to Show New Lincolns to Employees in July

Ford to Show New Lincolns to Employees in July
Lincoln's momentum continues

If you recall, back when Ford was in some of its darkest days in 2006, it took its employees in groups to see nearly all of its upcoming products to boost morale in the company. Now with Lincoln set for a rebirth, Ford will do the same. Called the "Lincoln Experience," Ford employees will be shown the new styling and strategy direction for the brand.

"Lincoln Experience" will be held for two weeks in July. FIN has learned the all-new 2013 MkZ will be present at the show in addition to numerous other new vehicles.

It is unclear at this point if Lincoln dealers or members of the media will be invited in the event. It is very unlikely that the public at large will formally be given product news from Ford. Leaks most likely will happen, however.

Many Ford executives should be present at the event including Lincoln's new head of design, Max Wolff.

If more information leaks out on the "Lincoln Experience," we will bring it to you here at FIN as fast as we can.

Exciting! Hopefully we'll get some leaks. I am really excited to see the new MKZ and anxious to know if the Navigator will get the 3.5 EcoBoost.

So, if the MKZ's styling is finalized, I guess the real reason they are introducing it later than the Fusion, is that they do not want the press to be reviewing them at the same time, and comparing them panel to panel and feature to feature.

From what I've heard, the Fusion should be a real looker too, and the last thing Lincoln needs is for the press to point out all the similarities and wonder why people would spend more for Lincoln.

Saying that, Lincoln's new style better be something special. I really want to see what attributes they consider for the future of their design. Will they present a decidedly Lincoln profile? Will the grill be smaller, yet more intricately designed? Will the interior design be world class?

The early bird gets the worm..but the second mouse gets the cheese.

Its finalized, but when was it finalized compared to the fusion might be the source of the delay.

I would suspect the design of the MKZ is finalized, but late changes call for a barrage of other development changes, which delays the whole process. It's easy to build a buck of the car for viewing at the employee thing, but not so much when you have to mass produce them for customers.

Re: Ford to Show New Lincolns to Employees in July

I believe the reason Ausrutherford (I think) gave somewhere
that because the MKS & MKT aren't all new & therefor milder representatives of Lincoln's new direction, they had to come out first or be seen as old hat

otoh
I really want to see Fomoco "put Lincoln first" (literally) by intro'ing some new model-platform with the Lincoln before the Ford
otoh2
STILL think this could be done with the MKG/KuGa getting a jump on the Eskooga - which MIGHT be part of the July-News

edit/btw
LINCOLN has posted this thread-Link on the facebook wall !

We have clear this:
1.- The new MK S and MK T wont have the Lincoln "new design languaje". Both will have limited facelift...
2.- The next MK Z will be the first Lincoln with an all new design.
3.- The MK Z and the next Fusion/Mondeo will be diferent , but maybe, not too much diferent at all. Thats why the separate launch. Maybe Ford feel that the Fusion will overshadow the new MKZ impact.
4.- The Ford employees could see the final design version of the MK Z.... But the production details are not finished
5.- The general public will see the refreshed MKT and MKS in LA autoshow ( i will be there ). To see the next MK Z, we will need to wait until next New York autoshow or Chicago autoshow in 2012. I will be surprised if the new MK Z will be at Detroit autoshow..

I wonder if it wouldn't be wiser to drop the lincoln nameplate altogether. Lincoln has always played second fiddle to Cadilac. And they don't even compare to other luxury cars. The Lincoln design language has always been too low key; You take a Lincoln to church. You take a Cadilac to the country club. I seriously doubt they will stray from this design language, but instead just give us yet another version of the same old song. An all new nameplate would make it easier to change derection of the line.

Actually, up until around the year 2000, Lincoln was the best selling luxury brand in the US including almost always beating Cadillac in sales.

Only problem ever with Lincoln was it did not get the "love" it should have. Jag/LR/Volvo got it all under Nassar.

Blasphemy! Lincoln is one of America's most storied brands and simply needs more attention paid to it. I think it is wrong to automatically make the assumption that Cadillac is better than Lincoln, which is I believe an idea perpetuated among those who don't pay much attention to American cars and just want to tear them down. Cadillacs have always been garish and sometimes gawdy, while Lincolns are tasteful and elegant. Lincoln is just as good as any luxury brand, it's just a different kind of luxury brand. Not everyone needs to imitate BMW, Mercedes and Lexus. If you want one of those buy one! Me I'll take a MKS any day over the CTS or 5-Series.
