Price of SYNC Drops $100, Heads to Base Models
Ford now offering lighter version of SYNC for cheaper cost.

Since it's 2007 debut, Ford's SYNC infotainment system has proliferated a vast majority of the brand's lineup. Absent from that proliferation has been the majority of Ford's base trim levels, which historically have not seen a large demand for the gadgetry - or cost - of the SYNC system. That, however, is changing for some 2012 models with a price drop and new packaging.

The 2012 Ford Edge and Explorer will be the first models to sport a new, cheaper variant of the SYNC system designed for service in base trim levels. The system is $100 cheaper than today's system and includes a lighter version of the SYNC system, meaning a few less features.

2012 Edge SE and Explorer base model will both offer SYNC optional. The SYNC system will provide drivers all of SYNC's core features, including Bluetooth, USB port, voice commands, 911 Assist and Vehicle Health Reports. Owners will be able to opt for a SYNC Services subscription out of pocket, whereas higher trim levels include three years of SYNC Services.

During the 2011 model-year Edge SE nor Explorer base offered SYNC as an option. Vehicles equipped with the lighter version of SYNC will sport a small color LCD radio display as well a color drivers information center.

Ford states that during the next three years the new SYNC pricing strategy will filter through the entire North American lineup. For the 2013 model-year the Escape, Flex, Focus and Taurus will be next in line for the latest SYNC packaging. ---> Come join us
