Ford and Aston Martin Team Up for Fusion Special Edition

Will be the Most Expensive Ford Built Car

The fact that the newest generation Ford Fusion or Mondeo looks like an Aston Martin is well known and it looks like Ford wants to play on its sexy exterior. Today, Ford announced a partnership with its former subsidiary, Aston Martin Lagonda Limited, to offer the Ford Fusion Aston Martin Special Edition.

On the outside, the special edition has Aston logos in the place of the Ford logos. Aston Martin-like styling cues such as hood and side vents have also been added. From what we are told, the rear end has been changed as well to include quad tailpipes and redesigned taillights.

Interior wise, the seats and dash have been wrapped in suede. Real aluminum pieces fill the interior and also set off the Aston Martin logos in the seats. The seats have also been changed and give a much tighter fit. Aluminum also regals the foot petals and the the center console, which extends into the second row kicking out the fifth passenger seat.

The exterior and interior furnishes that are different from a normal Ford Fusion will be made by Aston Martin and its suppliers and then delivered to Ford for final assembly.

When it comes to the powertrain, the Fusion Aston Martin Edition gets the 3.5L V6 EcoBoost engine equipped with a 6 speed manual. This mill will be good enough for 375 hp and 406 lb. ft. of torque. This is the first time the flagship of the EcoBoost line will be offered in the Fusion. All-wheel-drive will come standard to keep the vehicle on the ground.

Most interesting enough, production will take place in both North American and Europe. However, in Europe it will not be a Ford model! Like the Toyota iQ based Aston Martin Cygnet, the vehicle will be offered as a Aston Martin model, called the Odette. The Odette is named after the character from Swan Lake and follows in the footsteps of the Cygnet, which means "baby swan."

The Odette will further allow Aston Martin to offset their super car line with ever increasing European Union carbon emission standards. Though as awkward as it sounds, the Odette will probably become one of the most expensive vehicles Ford produces.

Though Aston Martin is no longer a wholly owned subsidiary with Ford only owning 8.7-%, they have found a further way to work together outside of engine production. The Ford Fusion Aston Martin Edition hits showrooms late this year with production in Flat Rock, Michigan. The Aston Martin Odette will start production once Spanish assembly of the Ford Mondeo starts in late 2014.

Aston Martin would never have let a real article release with spelling errors!

I wouldn't be surprised. We could have been fooled if there was an announced that Lincoln and Aston would pair up for a high-end model or new Continental.

If it is an 'April Fool's ' joke too bad...
This is the typical way to make the right car for North American manufacturers.
Big Motor in Small Car
I hope that a Ford/Lincoln exec is reading this and takes up the torch.
This is definitely a great potential BMW/Benz-beater in a big, controlled way.

This is why the Lincoln brand is in trouble. Ford only cares about Ford.
