Cool New Ford Energi Trademarks Hint At Future Electrified Focus, Explorer, Transit, Kuga

Ford appears set to expand its Energi lineup with the future introduction of electrified variants of the Explorer, Transit and Kuga.
InsideEVs.com

And a Ford Focus Energi too.
That’s according to Autocar and our own scouring of trademark filings. The publication sites a recent trademark filing from Ford.
Autocar states:
“The Ford Kuga, Explorer and Transit will receive electrified variants badged as Energi in 2020, according to a recent trademark filing.”
Ford’s electrification push has lagged behind most automakers, so it comes as welcoming news to find out the automaker is planning additional plug-in vehicles within the next few years. However, simply electrifying existing models usually results in rather subpar plug-ins, but it’s a step in the right direction.

So, the upcoming Energi rundown from recent trademark filings is as follows:
  • Ford Focus Energi
  • Ford Explorer Energi
  • Ford Transit Energi
  • Ford Kuga Energi
The PHEV Transit has already been confirmed for sale in Europe in 2019.

Presumably this is tied to all-new products which might be better suited to Electrification than the current products, so presumably these will be more meaningful than the Energie products we have right now.

We knew the Transit PHEV was on the way. Personally I think it would make sense to offer on the Transit Connect and F-Series as well.

F-150 is getting a hybrid model....whether it'll be an Energi model, I'm not sure, but it'd definitely make sense. I seem to recall seeing spy shots of F-150s with charge ports though.

Yeah, this seems to be more scraping for new product information that Ford is not sharing. It's not like Ford will be launching something faster than the competition that they need to keep secret, with electrification, Ford is behind the competition, so Ford will just be trying to catch up. So what's to hide. All the competition could say is 'it's about time'.

one of my rationalizations for Fomoco's delay in electros is waiting to use their limited federal rebates until other MFGs have used theirs UP...

I think there will be more of a need for better hybrids and hybrid/plug-in combos in the future.
Higher octane gas may be available soon, and this will help increase the range/performance of hybrids as well as ICEs.

Fully electric cars are great if you have access to charging stations, but many people do not have garages or access to even standard outlets at home or work.

Actually anywhere there is an outlet, an EV can charge. It's just at 110 it takes much longer. Having a power outlet in a garage is a basic code requirement for most. Having 220 power is an upgrade an EV owner would need to make. Ordinances in cities throughout the US are requiring apartment buildings to provide wiring for EVs, and employers get nice incentives to do so. There are many more home, condo, apartment dwellers with garage access than those without. It may be that those what must park on the street would be the largest demographic that would be most EV challenged. However, quick chargers can service those consumers.

The almost 400,000 Model E reservations offer an indication of the pent-up demand for more affordable 200+ mile EVs. And that's before anyone has driven it and reservations continue to climb.

Will Ford ever add sporty hybrids to its lineup?

Sort of like a MINI Cooper S E Countryman ALL4, an AWD plug-in hybrid which happens to also be the second quickest Countryman in the MINI's lineup behind the JCW.

Turbocharged gasoline engine powers the front wheels while an electric motor powers the rear.

Interesting if Ford would make a semi-sporty Hybrid crossover (Active) version of the next Focus.
