Automotive News says Dodge Demon should be banned

http://www.foxnews.com/auto/2017/04/...ergnet_1659840

The editorial says that the Demon is “the result of a sequence of misguided corporate choices that places bragging rights ahead of public safety,” and that it “spits” on the industry’s goal of improving safety while “knowingly placing motorists in danger.” It goes on to quote Ralph Nader and proclaim the Demon “unsafe at any speed.”

Dodge has not commented on the editorial.

The accusations are made despite the fact that no one on the staff of Automotive News has yet driven the car, and the piece doesn't mention Dodge’s assertion that the Demon isn’t just a drag racer. Its braking and roadholding capabilities are far superior to most cars on the road today, according to Dodge brand boss Tim Kuniskis, who says that it has the ability to pull a supercar-like 1.00 g on the skidpad and come to a stop from 60 mph in less than 100 feet, a feat that very few cars in the world can achieve.

When one thinks of Dodge, do they think,

1. Leader in innovative safety features and technology.
2. Adding lots of power to existing platforms, with minimal other advancements.

I'm still awaiting their article saying the same about Ferrari, Lambo, Bugatti and the like.

I get your point, but Demon is far quicker than all and that makes it unique in it's capability to easily harm anyone around it.

By the way, a quick fact about the Demon......because of it how it uses it's massive 770ftlbs with a trans-brake, it has 5X the amount of torque at launch that a Hellcat has. It literally launches at 1.8 G's.

I think the whole thing is ridiculous! Have they ever been to a cars and coffee? If they had then they would be asking for the banning of Mustangs. Any car in the hands of someone who cant handle is dangerous.

People buying a Demon most likely have owned several high performance muscle cars before.
I'd trust them more than people buying Teslas and trying out the ludicrous mode for fun.

Great points.
But at some point should we ask how much is too much? Is there even such a thing?
And what is more dangerous, a car with massive power but mostly spins its wheels.....or a car with massive power that knows how to put it down to the ground and can break speed limits in 2.8 sec?

Re: Automotive News says Dodge Demon should be banned

The Demon sounds like it should have been a track-only vehicle. Because none of it's high points can be utilized legally on public roads.

One of their primary bragging rights is just begging the consumer to break the law...."FASTEST PRODUCTION CAR FROM 0-100 MPH". There is a reason why the market uses 0-60 as the benchmark, so it keeps consumers within highway speed limits when trying to use their vehicle fo rit's intended purpose.

Then there is this....RACE-READY

How can Dodge say they are selling the vehicle to be safely driven on public roads, when it's design and selling point is that it's race ready.....Street Racing?

Then there is this....WORLD'S FASTEST 0-60 PRODUCTION CAR (2.3 SECONDS)

Road and Track(along with Tesla) beg to differ....2017 TESLA MODEL S P100D FIRST TEST: A NEW RECORD — 0-60 MPH IN 2.28 SECONDS! A big 4 door sedan.

I think the Demon is going to get FCA in trouble in so many ways.

Re: Automotive News says Dodge Demon should be banned

Oh this is stupid. Anything with over 350 or 400 horsepower is dangerous in the wrong hands, particularly with RWD. Face it, every >3500 lb block of metal that can get to 60 mph in under like 6 seconds is friggin dangerous. Automotive News is whining.
