Buy American for Japanese quality.

The Probe was officially launched in North America on May 12 1988. Originally, Ford intended to replace the venerable Mustang with the Probe. However, the Mustangs continued sales success and its numerous fans dissuaded Ford form pulling the Mustang off the market.

(wonder if the Probe is old enough to move this to the Vintage section?)

I had a girlfriend back in the day that hated that car, she said the name made her think of the gynecologists visits! LOL

Re: vid: 1988 Ford Probe GT Road Test

My older brother's wife bought a red Probe delivered June 1988. She wanted to be one of the first to get one. The Probe was listed as an early 1989 model year as I recall. Very aero for the times but I preferred the 2nd gen restyle during the early '90's. My brother let me drive the Probe. Wasn't bad but couldn't red line being a new vehicle and had to follow break-in etc. Felt like driving a barge only because I was use to driving my itty bitty '86 X 1/9 at the time.

Could there be a need for this market again? Maybe something similar only with hybrid technology etc. so you can have youthful styling (AND a 2-door again) with good mileage?

it may be because I've had a very trying, unpleasant morning
but
my current (new) feeling about 2-seaters is that they'll only sell-on-merit if they cost no more than 60% of a "real" car ... for example the Focus-ST's $24k base * 60% = ~14.5k
but
in every way other than the number of seats, they'd still have to offer everything the real car does.
For something electrified,
I guess 60% of the C-Max/C-Max-Energi should do.

I thought the Probe was a great chicks car at the time. My girlfriend of that moment wouldn't even consider the car because she said as a woman the name Probe gave her uncomfortable gynecologist flashbacks!

I'm sorry, I was referring to the market that the Ford Probe had.

How about a Fusion Coupe? I think with that Aston-esqe front end it would make an attractive coupe
