Ford EcoSport Refresh (inches closer to U.S. shores?)

Ford EcoSport inches closer to U.S. shores

Ford Motor Co. appears to be getting closer to selling the tiny EcoSport crossover in the U.S.

The EcoSport would fill a hole in Ford’s lineup below the Escape, competing against the Subaru XV Crosstrek, Chevrolet Trax and Jeep Renegade in a segment whose sales more than doubled last year.

Spy photos show the EcoSport, a subcompact crossover based on the same platform as the Fiesta, being tested near Ford’s headquarters in Dearborn, Mich. It had less camouflage than EcoSport prototypes seen in the area last year, though many details remained obscured. This one had a rear-mounted, full-size spare tire, though that feature would undoubtedly be absent from the U.S. version.

The EcoSport could arrive in the U.S. in late 2017 as a 2018 model, the research firm Autodata said in a report this month. It’s unclear where the vehicle would be built --likely Thailand, India or Mexico.

Ford said in January that it would add four utility vehicles to its U.S. lineup within the next few years, and the EcoSport is one of the surest bets to be among them. It’s likely to arrive at least a year before the Bronco SUV makes its return.

In December, Ford CEO Mark Fields declined to say whether the company plans to sell the EcoSport at American dealerships. His predecessor, Alan Mulally, indicated in 2014 that the vehicle eventually could come to the U.S.

Spy Photos were originally stretched wide when posted at autonews.com (above), I tried to approximate how the photos should actually look like by fixing the proportions. (below).

Re: Ford EcoSport Refresh (inches closer to U.S. shores?)

The rear bumper appears to have been extended by about 3 inches. (Federalized bumpers?)

Also noticed that the gap between the reversing light/rear fog light and the wheel arch is bigger.

Reposting because this thread makes more sense:

GREAT CATCH on that bumper! I kinda like the spare tire on the rear. Makes Ford's entry to the segment a little different.

I imagine the front is basically going to be the Edge. Which is awesome. I would love to see a 1.0EB option with a 6 speed manual! That would be neat. I have no idea if that is already offered in the EcoSport though, as I know nothing about it other than the fact that it needs a better interior if it's going to compete in the US. I hope they addressed that with the refresh.

This would be a good place holder until a new Fiesta/Focus platform can give us a vehicle more competitive with the Honda HRV. The new platform could see an Escape that matches the CRV in passenger/cargo room as well.

I am seeing them more and more around Dearborn, for sure.
Too small a class for me, but, it does make a lot more sense than a Fiesta.

Re: Ford EcoSport Refresh (inches closer to U.S. shores?)

Let's talk naming.

We have Escape, Edge, Flex, Explorer, Expedition

EcoSport doesn't fit. Maybe Ford Fjord (kidding lol). Maybe:

Ford Recon
Ford Scout
Ford Flight
Ford Guard
Ford Beau
Ford Curv
Ford Flash
Ford Riff

Great names, G.
But to stick with the ‘E’ naming convention, while also denoting levels of ‘getting away from it all’ themes, like…..Escape – Explore – Expedition – Excursion (Edge is more CUV than SUV), how about;
Ford Egress
Ford Exodus
Ford Elevate

Or, Ford Emote

It's a good roomier alternative to the Fiesta, and it's probably just as cheap to maintain and run.
A photo I took when I visited the Ford dealership this week.

I love Elevate or Egress!

Perhaps even "Elevation".

Ok, lets send all of the above to Mark Fields.
See what he says.

I am serious too.
