@dcorbett

maybe (a bit) coming up with only 2 interiors, F-150 & Navi, was just plain easier?
...
anyone getting a sorta-familiar feel about the face?
not sure if I'm thinking Flex or Explorer or what**

think I like this but STILL would like to see SOME of the F-150 grille variants on trims/pkgs

Re: 2018 Expedition spied

^...yeah, I am gonna wait for more clearer/official photos. I remember how horrible the current Navigator looked in the first shots we got, but it was really much better looking in official photos and live.

But to me it looks more Range Rover, especially since the rear should have a nice slope. But I think the F-150ish Expedition is to be more adventure/sport while the Navigator should get a whole new interior befitting a Lincoln. So bigger Explorer makes sense.

Think Range Rover(Expedition) and Range Rover Sport(Explorer). Remember, Ford designed all of them.

"I expect Ford to do the same with the new Expedition. Maybe going more bold and upscale looking like the Explorer."

Re: 2018 Expedition spied

If the 2018 Mustang has taught me anything, it's to wait for the high quality press pics before making my judgement on it, but tbh I like it! A touch too Tahoe imho. But hey, if that means she finally takes some of that sales pie, then so be it. I dig it. I love the wheel arches, I love the profile/side character line -- finally not a boring slab side for the Expedition. I am so-so on the lower valence. Wish the grille raised up to be ever so slightly higher than the top line of the headlights, but the hood's lines may make up for it in real pics.

Nice. Just understated enough for Navigator to distinguish itself with relative ease.

Re: 2018 Expedition spied

A few thoughts:

I didn't expect the interior to share so much with the F-150, but looks like they "niced" it up well.....the passenger dash fills in the little cubby hole area above the glove box, the center stack controls are redesigned from the F-150 in a more traditional/less truck like setup, the shifter is obviously different, and includes a rotary dial for the terrain management system, also the door panels are completely different.

The front end ironically shares some small Flex elements, like the headlight to grille transition:

---

This also answers the question as to how the Navigator's door handles will be. And really, this setup makes more sense on an SUV than the Continental's beltline handles given the height difference.

Re: 2018 Expedition spied

^ your post suggests (to me) that one role for the newExped is to take over from a discontinued Flex

&
I saw elsewhere that
the pictured one is the Platinum
which looks "quite different compared to the other variants.
The less expensive versions actually look much more like the Explorer..."

Looks good but I'll miss the low beltline of the current outgoing model.

F150-style interior looks fine but it's obvious the top of the center stack/aircon vents was designed to mimic the F-150's angular grille shape. A a bit odd because the Expedition's exterior is rounded.
