Motor Trend and USA Today MKZ blurbs

MT here, and USA today here.

Important info from both is it looks like Monday's event was a "webcast," no ride and drive (in fact, the MT blub makes specific mention of the fact that they haven't driven it yet )

Other info include confirmation that the MKZ's grille is more or less the "face" of the Lincoln lineup for the future and further verification that the MKZ was essentially done before Wolff arrived, so I guess everything else except the grille about future Lincolns can change.

At least it appears that Lincoln is being realistic about their market positioning (or lack thereof) and who they're aiming at. It sounds like a good, embryonic start to me.

But for a vehicle arriving at dealers by year's end that's being built right now, it makes me again wonder when the media rides and drives will be?

Re: Motor Trend and USA Today MKZ blurbs

Thanks, Iiari
I posted a more general DetroitFreePress article in the Farley Mgmt-team thread

that MotorTrend article impressed me* esp the summation (& a subtle contrast) in the first 2 paragraphs

OK, it's easy to figure out they meant base-wheels

from USA Today tho
"...The 2013 MKZ is bigger outside than the car it replaces and weighs more, but according to published specifications it has less overall room inside and a smaller trunk and fuel tank.."
REALLY?

WTHeck???:
"...The MKZ is the first new design among seven new or refreshed models in three years that Lincoln promised last November at the L.A. Auto Show as it rolled out a refreshed MKT crossover and MKS flagship sedan. Among the coming Lincolns is expected to be a new-to-the-brand, entry-level compact, smaller than the MKZ..."

It sounds like he can't wait to create his own designs. I wonder what Max thinks Lincolns should look like.

that question sure deserves its own smilie, N.R.!

my first hope is that all grille and tail light designs become harmonious & at least somewhat related

2nd is that he makes a PLAN(s) for direction(s) to take 5 - 10 - 20 years down the line (course changes are inevitable but without some guiding philosophy...is how we got 4 unrelated design themes sold concurrently)

third is maybe that MxW takes a look at Mission:LINCOLN

Re: Motor Trend and USA Today MKZ blurbs

couldn't find a thread where we were talking about how soon Z's would arrive at dealers
but
here's a blurb from phharval.com's StartUP-BuildOut

the new Z's Job 1 date is shown as 5 Nov 2012 now
at least the report is dated Nov 9
so it seems definite AT LAST and can't/won't slip any farther

Where are you seeing 11/5 job1? It doesn't say that on the phharval link.

unless I'm mis-reading this, xgman,
the next model to the 2012 MKZ is the new 2013 MKZ

dunno why they posted it that^ way

otoh
I've seen a post elsewhere
- claiming some dealers are already receiving stock Z's
- and calling that date into question

Re: Motor Trend and USA Today MKZ blurbs

See it now. If any dealers are receiving stock that signals a "soon" start to pre-orders I would think. They just need to get them underway. I cringe at the 2013 MKZ = 10-12 weeks bit though on that chart.
