Kia debuts Stinger GT

Back in 2014 Kia showed a concept they called the Stinger GT, which was a pretty cool looking couple. Fast forward a few years and we have the roduction version which has morphed into a an A7 like vehicle. It's honestly a rather stunning design. It has a 3.3 turbo V6 putting out 365hp and 376 ft-lbs of torque to the rear wheels via an 8-speed automatic.

Looks impressive I am surprised. I like the interior minus that popup nav screen.

Same design language, but I wouldn't say the RWD Stinger looks just like an Optima MCE.

If only Ford made a new Falcon...

I see the similar rear window and C-pillar style, but i think the different proportions make it look different.

Other car brands do this too, from Audis to Fords, you see a strong family bond between models.

Re: Kia debuts Stinger GT

This "new" Kia is an Optima with a Pontiac treatment: scoops, black trims, plastic spoilers and deflectors.... Even with a RWD platform doesnt look very different from its FWD brother

A person who would mistake the two, would most likely also mix up the Ford car and MPV models.

Gregory Guillaume, chief designer at Kia Motors Europe - “We believe the Stinger GT is going to fundamentally change the global image of Kia.”.

Really? I am with 2b2, looks like a somewhat sporty Optima facelift.

My question is " is the chassis any good?"

IMO Hyundai/Kia weak link is chassis development.

Hyundai-Kia now has the guy who tuned most of BMW's high-performance M-cars since the 80s, and he worked on the Stinger.
Quote:
Peter Schreyer oversaw the design, which was done at Kia’s studio in Frankfurt, while chassis tuning and performance was overseen by Albert Biermann.

Biermann joined Kia after more than 30 years at BMW, where he had a hand in engineering nearly all of M Division’s high-performance cars since the 1980s.

The BMW 4 Series was the key benchmark for the Stinger, Biermann said. “When you look at our quality ratings, and the success story of Kia, I think there are several companies who could be worried about how Kia is moving forward.”
I think Hyundai did a decent job when they developed their first modern RWD platform several years back (the one used by the Genesis Coupe). I guess they've learned a thing or two along the way, plus of course they now also have an ex-BMW M-Division engineer.

I'm impressed at the fact that they put this car, a sporty RWD 4-door into production.
