Fordís 2.0L Ecoboost cunning!?!

In the 2013 Ford Edge, Explorer & Taurus, the 2.0L Ecoboost commands a USD 995.00 premium above the Ti-VCT 3.5L V6 Engine, whereas in the 2013 MKZ, the Ti-VCT 3.7L V6 Engine is a USD 1,230.00 option over the standard 2.0L Ecoboost. Thatís like saying the 3.7L is USD 2,225.00 more expensive than the 3.5L. As far as I know, the Ti-VCT 3.5L & 3.7L are virtually identical except for the obvious 0.2L displacement.

I see it like this; Lets rip-off lower budget minded Ford brand customers looking to save money on fuel consumption by charging them more for the more fuel efficient 2.0L Ecoboost engine (on top of the standard Ti-VCT V6), and, rip-off higher budget Lincoln customers looking for more power in their premium purchase by charging them more for the more Ti-VCT V6 engine (on top of the standard 2.0L Ecoboost). Both cases have the same engine choices, but it means more money to Ford.

Re: Fordís 2.0L Ecoboost cunning!?!

I would love to see the actual cost of making each engine.

The 3.7 is supposed to be a real gem. I would think it is a worthy upgrade if mileage is not the main purchasing factor. For the MKZ, I would have to see an actual real-world showdown between the 2.0 ecoboost and 3.7 V6.
If performance and driving feel are better, it is worth the price for a $45K vehicle.
What about the upcoming 2.7 V6? That could be the standard engine the MKZ, and an ecoboost version of the same could be the optional engine.

For the Explorer/Edge/Taurus, The 2.0 ecoboost and 3.5 should be swappable at no charge. You have the whole 3.5 Ecoboost to throw in the ring as well. That is worth the upgrade if you prefer performance.

The early bird gets the worm..but the second mouse gets the cheese.

1. can KINDA see this as hi-tech is std for Lincoln
2. FLincMoCo is ripping-off BOTH their customer groups
3. the Nano 2.7v6 might fix this
Wonder if this opposite pricing 'trick' will dictate which sells more?

The next question is what additional equipment is included when selecting the 3.7? I doubt the upgrade cost of the six is found in the engine bay.

^ accessing the build-your-own pages on Lincoln.com isn't easy for my old dialup puter
but
I thought all feature-options within a trim level stayed the same regardless of drivetrain

The cost differences is $1900 not the $2200 listed - They need to offer the 3.5 eccoboost in this car instead

There is nothing new about Ford masterfully I might add charging more for an engine that provides greater fuel economy but less performance.
