Carroll Shelby has started planning for a new sportscar line. According to my sources this will see Shelby move beyond a specialty builder and into a major sportscar manufacturer that will take aim at Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, Mercedes, McLaren, BMW, amoungst other companies. My sources suggest that this range will consist of 3 models. The first of these models will likely be a new Cobra sportscar, which will be powered by a version of the GT500 supercharged 5.4 liter V-8 this engine will produce as much as 600 BHP, this will be followed by a production version of the GR-1 and this model will have a version of the same engine with as much as 660 BHP,

The last model will be what is slated to be a Shelby Series 2, this new supercar will feature a enlarged version of the supercharged GT500 V-8, rumors suggest a displacement of 6.0 liters and horsepower rating of 770 BHP. These engines will have a choice of transmissions either a 6 speed manual transmission or a 7 speed sequetial shift transmission driving the rear wheels. These models will use a aluminum spaceframe with body panels slated to be made of aluminum and carbon fiber. These models cockpits will be unique to each sportscar The Series 2 will be a coupe body style, with some cues taken from classical Aston Martin racercars , expect a front mid-engine layout with a longer front bonnetand a short rear end.

Panoz is hard at work on the Abruzzi supercar, this new supercar will be a street-legal LeMans racer, the engine of choice is Panoz tuned version of the Ford Racing 6.4 liter V-8 with a option of it being supercharged also with as much as 700 BHP. The styling will be unique for this model featuring a fornt mid-engine layout with plenty of new racing technolgy to make this car the most technological Panoz on the road to date! Expect the transmission of choice slated to be a 7 speed sequetial shift transmission driving the rear wheels. The body panels will be made of RTM fiber glass and carbon fiber. The chassis will be a carbon fiber and aluminum and will be produced at Panoz own facility. Expect this model to come in both coupe and roadster, also expect active aerodynamics to help the roadholding of this new supercar.

This would be the first American car to take on the Corvette. Which at this point is king, no matter how one looks at it.
