Ford has not been quiet regarding the fact that the 2.0-liter Ecoboost four-cylinder will be launching in North America during the 2012 model-year. In fact, last week they announced that the Explorer with the latest Ecoboost engine would be rated 28-MPG highway. Now dealership sources are telling FIN that the 2012 Edge Ecoboost will see a 30-MPG highway rating.

According to the dealers, earlier today Ford updated the order guide for the 2012 Edge, adding the EPA ratings for the 2.0-liter Ecoboost model. The order guide has the engine rated at 21-MPG city and 30-MPG highway. Back in June FIN stated (http://www.fordinsidenews.com/forums/showthread.php?7501-2012-Edge-Receives-Minor-Tweaks) that the Edge Ecoboost would likely see highway fuel economy upwards of 30-MPG.

Like the Explorer Ecoboost, expect the engine to sport around 240 horsepower and 275 pound-feet of torque.

The new engine will be optional on all trim levels; SE, SEL and Limted. It will be mated to a six-speed automatic.

Along with the new engine will be minor exterior tweaks, all with the goal of maximizing those fuel economy numbers. Production of the 2012 Edge begins on August 8th.

How heavy are these? Seems like Ford is pushing the limits with the 2EB.

Thats what Ford plans on doing. MY bet would be at least 500 lbs.

Imagine this plant in the Mustang. It's almost 600 lbs lighter than the Edge. It would really cook in the Escape!

13 Going on 30: Ford Has Edge on Fuel Economy - TheFordStory

Who says 13 is unlucky? For Ford, 13 is all good – it represents the number of model/power combos currently delivering an EPA-estimated fuel economy rating of 30 mpg or more!

The Edge is the newest in the Ford lineup to receive the EcoBoostŪ engine, and with that estimated 30 mpg highway, it says “checkmate” to its class competitors as well as to cars such as the Honda Civic Si and Saab 9-3 automatic. The only competitive SUVs offering higher highway fuel economy than the Edge with EcoBoost are a few smaller-size vehicles such as the Ford Escape Hybrid…but then there’s no family rivalry there.

Among the Ford models with the EPA-estimated 30 mpg or more are the Mustang 3.7-liter automatic, Fiesta five-speed manual and automatic, Focus five-speed manual and automatic, and Fusion 2.5-liter automatic and Fusion Hybrid...
