Ford Escape Named 2013 Readerís Choice Crossover of the Year

The votes are in, and the award for the Readerís Choice of Crossover of the Year goes to the 2013 Ford Escape.

AutoGuide readers, as well as the members of over 360 forum communities were all asked to vote in their own awards, and the Ford Escape came out on-top in the Crossover of the Year category, beating out several other vehicles in a hotly contested segment. The Escape was victorious over the Ford C-Max, Hyundai Santa Fe, Mazda CX-5, Nissan Pathfinder, Subaru XV Crosstrek, and Toyota RAV4 EV.

In our Ford Escape Review, we loved its eye-opening styling as well as its great handling. ďThe drive itself is excellent, as weíd expect from a crossover based on the fun Focus,Ē said Editor-in-Chief Colum Wood. He added ďItís more enjoyable than it needs to be (always a bonus), reacting fast with a direct electric power steering system.Ē

The Escape is all new this year, with a platform based on the Ford Focus compact car. Itís available with three engine choices, including a powerful, yet fuel-friendly 2.0L EcoBoost which makes 240 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque. The Escape is also affordable, with prices starting at $25,895 and ranging all the way up to the top-trim Titanium which costs $31,195.
