I'm afraid there's a strong faction within Fomoco who believes they can do it all with just Ford & Lincoln
    but
that assumes Lincoln will never be much more than it is (almost) Now
(and that Ford will succeed in stretching from market-entry buyers to those who can-&-will choose Lincolns)
    &
imho that's selling both Lincoln And Mercury short.
(and expecting too much of Ford's CUSTOMERS - to understand that nearly-everything approach)

Still trying to think of a catch-phrase-way to get it across.
'Alternative' and 'upscale sophistication' mean something to me - something "a bit nicer" for those with more taste-&-aspirations than money
or even those with money who believe Style doesn't mean SpendThrift.
Maybe the closest cliché I've found is to imagine an Acura whose designers hadn't all gone blind simultaneously
    or
to think about all the brands (once) between Chevy & Caddy -And- the imports who have replaced them!

My bottom line is that when the EEKonomy improves, the mid-range/Premium Brands will be The Growth segment
& I hope Mercury is still around to work its Magic for Fomoco.
Iv been getting a hint that Mercury gets the wagon.

yeah, I saw you say that at BON
    umm
anything you want to PM me?

^ that doesn't thrill me if it's true
    UNLESS
it's part of a 'suite' of C3 cars: sedan, wagon, AND Cabrio-replacement
those other 2, along with a new Mariner = my minimum/ideal for making Mercury a valid Premium small-car Brand
