Thanks to a "gust of wind" KGP managed to catch an explorer tester in the buff. Other than the Camo on the back the rest of the car is clear for all to see more at the link

I really do not know how I feel about this....
Very Range Rover isq front wind screen, sort of like Discovery 3 or LR-3 and the grill too has a Range Rover ring to it.
My thoughts:
1. There's a lot of Focus and even some Fiesta in the front.
2. It doesn't look anything like the Explorer America concept.
Very carlike, will it be too carlike for people who bought the old Explorer?

I actually kind of like it. Production photos should help make my final judgment.
me too, Andrew
think my main disappointment is that KGP was able to get these photos
(think that's the first time I ever said That!)
my second disappointment, which I want to qualify by emphasizing that we haven't got a good enough idea of the overall SHAPE of the Explorer, isthat it just doesn't feel like Ford put as much effort into its styling as they did with the Taurus, which is soooo beautifully detailed (until I saw one in person I'd thought it might be 'over-styled' ...it's not, it's PERFECT);this Explorer just strikes me as too safe/undistinguished. Color may have something to do with it ... I hope
also it's not blocky('Terrain')enough to satisfy me in the opposite direction.
which leaves me with feeling that the capabilities of the new unibody platform had better be surprisingly 'robust'
since tho the ExplorerAmerica concept could have sold on looks alone (imho), unless full monty photos change my impression, the production-Explorer won't
which is really too bad since imho the Taurus, Fusion, Fiesta, Edge MCE, even the Flex, and especially the C3 Focus :drool:drool: COULD be mediocre and sell just because they're so darn goodlooking.

It looks like its sharing components with the Edge. A 3 Row edge? Traverse size or should I say mazda CX-9?

I see a lot of the 2011 Edge in this vehicle which has the Taurus grille which was also on the Land Rovers with that pierced grille. I think the pierced grille looks good on both vehicles and think that might be the thing Ford keeps using like they did or do with the 3 Bar Grille uniformity.
To bring up the Explorer concept though; I think like someone before said in a previous thread, "Ford has a different direction and look than when they did the concept." This vehicle fits in more with the "look" Ford is going with on their larger vehicles or flagship vehicles. The Taurus and Explore I think are Flagships in their categories; the Taurus being in the car segment and the Explorer being in the SUV category.
Thats just what I am grasping from this vehicle and my opinion in general.
114 days till my lease ends on my Milan and hopefully I get my new totally sexy Fiesta!! (Just thought I would throw that out there!!)

forgot to say
in addition to the still hidden rear**, none of Autoblog's photos give the angle I want on the windshield - which in some more-camo'ed shots looked very sleek: steeply raked and a bit rounded (like from overhead)
** the TL's might make a big diff too
Hope you're gonna give us all a ride in your Fiesta, YZx5 ;)
