    NextGen Range Rover

    Next Range Rover to be lighter, sharper

    AutoCarMagazine.co.uk by Julian Rendell

    "Scheduled for sale in 2012, the all-new Range Rover starts the replacement cycle for the next-generation Range Rover Sport, Discovery, Freelander and Defender, plus possible additional new models."

    "The alloy body is forecast to save around 40 per cent of the weight of the Range Rover’s unpainted bodyshell, which translates into a saving of between 300kg and 400kg. In effect, Land Rover is aiming for a kerb weight of around 2200-2300kg, less than today’s car, while keeping the Range Rover’s stately presence and roomy, luxurious cabin."

    "Engines will be a mix of new and revamped units, co-developed with Jaguar."
    - Two all-new direct injection 5.0-litre petrol V8's = 350bhp and supercharged 460bhp.
    - Diesels = Land Rover's new 3.6-litre TDV8 will be stretched to 4.0 litres with around 300bhp and 520lb ft.
    - & maybe a hybrid.

    BUT
    this other quote from the article:
    "Two themes are being developed for the Range Rover, one more radical than the other."
    reminded me of some futurisitc renderings I saw last year... took a while to find the membership-only article
    - http://www.just-auto.com/article.aspx?ID=89673 -
    Luckily it was re'printed' by
    - http://www.landrover-center.com/newsread.asp?id=750 -
    & AutoWeek had most of it too
    - http://www.autoweek.com/apps/pbcs.dl...THISWEEKSISSUE -
    with a couple pix (which didn't like being shown so here's the links)
    pic1= http://CWimg.sv.publicus.com/apps/pb...=1023&maxw=490
    pic2= http://CWimg.sv.publicus.com/apps/pb...=1023&maxw=490

    BUT
    those aren't the pix I remembered!
    They were more like this

    haven't found the article with them yet.

    Hard to tell for real how radical the "radical theme" is without a pic. I will venture to say that I don't think it will be far out radical. "Radical" in Land Rover's lingo may mean "a bit modern in the general design language. Keep in mind that the Fairlane Concept (now Ford Flex) was originally a concept developed to study the design for the next Range Rover.

    One of the stength of Range Rover is tradition so they better be careful.

    Those first pic of a new LR look good. I love the fact that they will use aluminum to bring the weight down, make it faster, and most importantly, increase fuel economy. So now a LR Range Rover will weigh around 4500 lbs?as much as the smaller Ford Edge. I think though that this new technology needs to go to the rest of the SUVs and trucks the Ford makes, because the F-150 and other large vehicles weigh too much.

    That looks good, though, I am more inclined to get a Navigator

    :nods: (rather vigorously)
    & Sobe, would you consider that last "LR-TT/Landie" pic (as I've learned they're calling it [source]) "radical"?
    I might say "avant garde".
    btw I found that landrover-center re'print' to be most interesting (shameless plug & re-link)

    we all know this is a Mr. Burn's type design. It has no basis in reality

    That sounds really bad. My apologies. I meant to say its not a studio design.. My choice of words could have been better.
    Given Mr. Burns could make a company lots of money, if they were to hire him and give him resources..
    His Designs are simply stunning.
