I completely agree, 2b2. Whoever would be the head designer for Conti must be an artisan(highly qualified and extremely talented).

I'm still waiting to see if Max is a good designer or not.

you can make a new thread (we could move-or-copy our posts so far to it) but
I'd ask that the title be a different format since it is a dream-or-fantasy topic

What would you think about a Mission:2020 thread?
I was going to eventually start a "Mercury: Mission2020" to propose THE RETURN
but it could be for the entire corp...
A Mission:2020 thread is a very great idea, 2b2! We get so off topic on here that this would be necessary!

It’s not a journey. Every journey ends, but we go on. The world turns and we turn with it. Plans disappear. Dreams take over. Yet wherever I go, there you are. My luck, my fate, my fortune. MERCURY. It's inevitable.

    Re: Mission: LINCOLN!

before something happens this coming week in L.A. — or doesn't**
here's a quote from a SLS-AMG-BlackLabel...I mean "Series" article from Autosavant

...extensive weight shedding ... thanks to items such as ceramic brakes (which trim 35.3 pounds), the titanium exhaust system that sheds another 28.7 pounds, and the creative use of a lightweight lithium ion battery which knocks off another 17.6 pounds of extra weight...

sorta in response to questioning elsewhere about how Lincolns can be differentiated from top-level "shared platform" Ford vehicles

** if I get depressed or pissed off enough, I might start a 'version' of a new thread...

    Re: Mission: LINCOLN!

    copying(stealing) Andrew's lineup from
    the
    XTS-MKS-vs-theWorld thread

    quote:
The problem is Lincoln has not really competed with RR and Bentley since the 50's? That is a REALLY long time.
I have no issue with Lincoln offering a few FWD based models. I think the MKZ is a fine car to compete with the Lexus ES like the Continental from 88-02 did. I would LOVE for Lincoln to return to their roots and offer a full size RWD Flagship.

I said before... and this is just my own opinion but I think Lincoln does not need a FULL lineup. They dominated with 3 models in the 90s

MKZ - FWD/AWD Volume Mid Size Sedan
MKX - FWD/AWD Volume Mid Side CUV
MKG - FWD/AWD Volume Small CUV
LS - RWD/AWD Mid Size Sports Sedan
Mark IX - RWD/AWD Mid Size Coupe based on the LS
Continental - RWD/AWD Full Size Sedan
Continental Town Car - RWD/AWD Full Size Extended Length Sedan
Navigator - Full Size RWD/4x4 Full Size SUV

    MKT stays for livery only.

I think this would be a solid lineup, you cover the high end prestige, the sportiness, and the volume.

    Re: Mission: LINCOLN!

soooo much Lincoln stuff this week that I'm still trying to catch up
    but
    wanted to post

    so
    a sedan larger than the Z &
a "Suv" larger than the X
along with the MKC (MKuGa) are all the models that have been confirmed
    BUT
    • could the sedan be larger than the S? = the MKS's originally planned big brother codenamed E386 (old chop) ...to replace both the MKT and TownCar
    • could the "Suv" use a regular and extended wheelbase to recreate the Aviator as well as the Navigator? ...a "2for" doing a much better job as large&larger peoplemovers (MKT) too

    - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

to sorta recap the Lincoln lineup afaik
    circa Jan 1, 2015

    MKC
    littlest Cuv
    MKZ smallest sedan
    MKX mid Cuv
    MKS mid sedan
    Aviator mid-lg "Suv" (part aluminum)
    MTC** (ModernTouringCar) large sedan
    Navigator large "Suv" (all/mostly aluminum)

**edit: thinking "LTC" for Lincoln TouringCar might be better
and even lead to replacing the "MucK" on the rest of the F-Awd lineup

    - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

imho the phase after that is when RWD returns

    Re: Mission: LINCOLN!

my mind is officially blown by the detailed consensus appearing on car forums
    mgescuro @ GMI
...if I were Lincoln, I'd start with 3 models: Navigator, Mark IX (Mustang personal sports coupe), and a better iteration of the MKS, renamed Continental.
I would then take a look at the upcoming 1-series from BMW and see what I could do with a Focus and come up with sedan, performance hatch and a convertible. I'd resurrect the Zephyr nameplate.
3rd phase would resurrect the Town Car as a pseudo-flagshippy thing, aligned with Equus. A mid-size crossover would come in here as well -- renaming MKX...
...And I'd kill MKT and MKT Town Car...
(edit: tho I'm not sure about 'my' Focus-based "MKE")

    edit2:
I meant to raise the question,
WHAT IF Lincoln/FlincMoCo wants to do Luxury but done differently from anybody else?

    Re: Mission: LINCOLN!

These are the first 4 cars that popped in my head...
    Lincoln C = FWD/AWD Focus-based "sedan-length" 5-door fastback (hatch).
Lincoln MKR = RWD mid-size sedan
Lincoln MK9 = RWD mid-size 4-door coupe with proportions closer to the MKR concept, spiritual successor to the Mk Coupes.
Lincoln MKS = RWD large sedan

Haven't thought of the cossovers/SUVs yet.
