    Should Ford Control Aston Martin

Just a though Aston Martin wants to expand and if Ford wants Lincoln to truly become more upscale Aston Martin could be a nice platform donor.
Ford already spent research and development on the brand.
In short a Lincoln dealer paired with Aston Martin could get get more potential clients.

Ford currently has around 12% of Aston Martin stake they could take a controlling amount again, and Aston could cater to the sporty luxury crowd while Lincoln aim for the comfortable, but well rounded luxury cars.
It would be a Luxury brand with and ultra luxury brand.

One would face off with Audi and the other Maserati.

this would be a good platform for the Continental.

Re: Should Ford Control Aston Martin

tho imho Aston Martins are the most beautiful cars in the world,
sorry to say I pretty much completely disagree

to the best of my non-knowledge, Aston Martin could NOT be a nice platform donor because
    - so much of their cars are hand built or at least Not At All geared for mass assembly
    - they don't have any Suv/Cuvs, which is the main growth segment

Imho a Lincoln dealer paired with Aston Martin would become
    - invisible
    - seen as the ugly step sister
(+ afaik, there's nothing stopping a dealer from owning both Lincoln and Aston Martin franchises now ...except money)

"Ford currently has around 12% of Aston Martin stake they could take a controlling amount again"
however Fomoco seems to like being the dog wagged by its tail(s)
    ie a hapless sugar-daddy

"Aston could cater to the sporty luxury crowd" ...which has No interest in Lincoln
& No overlap with Lincoln demographics

Lincoln would (again) be a NearLuxury brand neglected for an ultra luxury brand.

IMHO the Rapide would be a nice skin-donor for a Thunderbird (IF there was a business case for a new Tbird)
IMHO this would be a good platform for the Continental:

You need to be careful how this gets done. Look at the Jaguar S-Type and Lincoln LS a few years back. Jaguar wanted to hog all the refinements and not allow any for for the LS which is one of the reasons why we don't have the LS today. The LS had such potential to bring Lincoln world-class yet wasn't allowed to.

A joint venture of some sorts with Aston Martin could add some lustre and prestige to tarnished Lincoln Brand so people don't see Lincoln as just a fancy Ford.

They do it! look at the grilles in the new Fusion, Focus Electric and the 2014 Fiesta.... you could see that Aston Martin is owned by Ford.... and is sharing their parts with Ford Motor....
