Ford tumbles to second worst in Consumer Reports reliability survey

It's no secret that MyFord Touch has had its share of problems since being introduced, but the most recent reliability survey from Consumer Reports shows just how much this infotainment system has affected Ford. Just two years ago, the automaker was in the top 10 for the institute's reliability rankings, but since then, it has tumbled to the second-lowest rung just above dead-last Jaguar. In addition to MyFord Touch, CR also attributes a handful of new products that have had issues right out of the gate.

Compiled from 1.2 million subscriber surveys, this year's auto reliability survey heavily favors Japanese automakers, with eight of the 10 spots hailing from Japan. Toyota brands grabbed the top three spots (Scion, Toyota and Lexus in that order) with Mazda, Subaru, Honda and Acura filling the next four spots. The only non-Asian automaker cracking the top 10 was Audi at number eight.

Re: Ford tumbles to second worst in Consumer Reports reliability survey

I kinda see 3 (three) problems here
    these ratings are crazy
afaik some mfgs still produce poorly engineered (in part) vehicles (no names)
& that kind of poor design OR poor fabrication really doesn't equate with inconvenient gizmos that don't effect driveability (unless you let them)
Ford *may* have some real problems (by ^my^ criteria) ex: DCT/PowerShift trannies that "displease" owners (or ex: some interior design flaws in the Focus that displease ME)
gizmo "pre-occupation" - personally, tho I like 'toys' theoretically, I'm experiencing a backlash feeling when it comes to BUILDING then INTO automotive 'housings'...
...so even before I've HAD a car with a big/any screen in it; I DON'T WANT ONE
(tho I still want to be able to hook a puter/laptop to the car (prolley wirelessly/remotely) to configure my totally-programmable driver/car interface; incldg
how fast each wiper setting swipes
which vents are used & under what conditions
the colors of my IP/console lights - heck the 'skin' of my IP
how much steering boost I want
    how the adj.height suspension adjusts
    how/when to switch betwn MPG-mode & performance-mode
    etc)

^IMHO, MFT has nothing to do with reliability. Like you said, it's just a toy. CR is so biased.

    ^ yeah
    &
just saw a post elsewhere that sorta 'proposed' a new criterium, that of "suckage"
    to wit
it ain't broken & 'works' the way it was designed to
    BUT IT SUCKS

definitely can also apply to styling or lack thereof

IMO, it doesn't really suck. People just don't know how to use it properly. I recently drove the new Fusion, and the MFT worked very smoothly. The problem is dealers don't teach you how to use the system like they should. I had to learn how to use it on my own. The salesman was talking about how great Ford's quality has gotten while I was driving. This guy would not shut up. It turns out he didn't know a thing about the car. Usually, they're supposed to be trained when a new model arrives.

Like I said, CR is really biased. I could care less about their opinions.

Ford has a "what do you want to hear from us?" thread on Facebook right now, and calls for Lincoln coupes, rwd, and fixes to MFT are easy to find.

Pray tell can anyone tell me why anyone not shopping for an appliance would even read Consumer Reports?

Re: Ford tumbles to second worst in Consumer Reports reliability survey

I have MFT in my Explorer, and is working perfectly. the people dont know how to use it. That is all. Ford needs to teach to all the new customers how to use the interface. I cant understand why is to complicated for the people to learn something as simple as MFT ! And Consumer Report can go to hell! I dont care about them...

They really need to do something about this MFT/MLT. This could potentially hurt Lincoln's rebirth
