It will succeed or fail on it's merits. The 71-73 (not too popular, but still OK) and the Fox bodies 79-93 (hugely popular) had the least obvious styling cues.
When I first saw the Evos I thought "That's a Mustang"......with a little tweaking.

See, that right there is one of the reasons I don't like the Mustang as much as the Camaro and Challenger - since it's the only Ford left with some proper balls(R.I.P. Ford GT, the reincarnation of the Deuce's original 'Eff-U' to Ferrari...), it's left pulling double duty against not only the nu-muscle, but the Vette and Viper as well. I'd just like it if the Mustang could just worry about being a Mustang, leaving bigger fish to either a new M/R Ford GT, or a FM/R Thunderbird(this time bringing it back to serve it's original purpose of being a direct competitor to the Vette...)...
And now I'm wondering what a new version of either would look like in Fords new styling language...
Optimus Prime is a BAMF!
very-belated "hi", GRIMEY!
&
maybe the (imho) coming Mustang-co-platformed LINCOLN sportsedan & coupe-cabrio will take over the highest-end performance slot (5.0EB with upto700hp)
then again
imho a sporty sub-Mustang coupe/3door will probably show up eventually (2020?)

Was wondering how long it was gonna take my return to register with ya...
Anyway, the only way Lincoln should figure into the kind of car I'm talking about(2-seat sports/super car positioned above Mustang) is if Caddy ever gets around to making a production Cien, though I don't think they should have similar power-train layouts(if the Caddy is MR, the Lincoln should be FMR, and vice-versa...)...
Though that unlikely scenario notwithstanding, I'd still welcome the existence of a hot-rod Lincoln in other forms...

^ yeah I had ISP-outage
&
I'm pretty much against 2-seaters for any Mfg I want to make a profit
&
kinda hope that Lincoln is irrelevant for what Cadillac does AND vice-versa;
actually would rather they be practically complementary to eachother
as a 1-2-punch against the true enemies
&
imho a good strategy for Lincoln would be to *partially* electrify all their vehicles
which would definitely figure in my version of a supercar for them: (Mission:LINCOLN Link)
I would really love to see a return of the Thunderbird, but not like the job they did on the LS/S-type platform a few years ago. I want it to be on a wider/longer stretched mustang platform and be more of a premium muscle car...I doubt a car like that will happen though...maybe as a Lincoln.
Ford should make a new GT40, and continue to work on high performance versions of their sub-compact/compact FWD cars as well.
The early bird gets the worm..but the second mouse gets the cheese.
I agree that a resurrected Thunderbird shouldn't be anything like the prior LS job, other than being a RWD 2-seater - what I was basically saying was that should Ford make another Vette/Viper competitor, it should be named either Ford GT or Thunderbird, depending on whether it is mid-engine/RWD, or front-mid-engine/RWD...
Optimus Prime is a BAMF!
just imho
*IF* the Ford Brand built a 2-seater, it should be calledCOBRAand look a lot like this
I would love to see the GT come back. I miss it, I remember when working at a country club many moons ago a member there had a red one and the engine sounded so sweet. It is a shame they still don't build them. BUT perhaps this is something LINCOLN should look into. I still think the Lincoln brand needs a halo. It does not have to be mid engined but a 2 door sports oriented vehicle something like the Mark VIII maybe?
