from the A-pillar forward, the Mercury Sable was unique, including sheetmetal
from the 'Taurus'
imho
just being different doesn't mean "distinct" or "distinctive" enough
that's how I've been feeling lately too

re: the last Thunderbird, forgot to say (again) that
imho the Tbird shoulda been a Lincoln
&
the LS (sorry, Andrew) shoulda been the Mercury XR6 & XR8

This styling is what Lincoln should be using. The split wing grille would ruin this design. But to be honest here, My Lincoln Wish List (like the tv commercial says) is for this vehicle shown above to be built (along with the Continental Concept and Mk9 Concept) with no changes. Period. The grille texture and unique headlamps give the Lincoln much need character. The design is clean and doesn't look "Ford-ish". It looks like what a Lincoln should be. Now if we could make another version with 4-doors using a longer wheelbase with the same folding roof design to fit the longer body. Another change would be to have the whole front hood/fender section where the line runs midway to the door flip forward instead of the regular lift up to show the engine compartment.

The correct grilles for Lincoln are two: the eggcrate from the Continental in the 50, 60s , and the Rolls Royce vertical slats in the Mark series since 70s. The twin wing grille are not working

Tho along the with my 'experimental' proposal ^above^
& in addition to the 'grid' and 'slat' heritage themes,
I've ranted that Lincoln should have a 3rd grille style: chrome mesh;
with all 3 available as SignatureStylePkgs**
The reason being
imho
Lincoln would do well to DE-EMPHASIZE the whole grille debate
and aim for sheetmetal that says Lincoln Luxury...
(imho, the Greatest Luxury is CHOICE)
...guess another expression of that design philosophy is my rant for hidden headlites
that may not be popular in "anime addicted" Japan
ex: Mazda smilie-face frontends or
the Lexus spider-face that says to me "well every Good design was taken!"
(not sure if China has a similar perversion)
** then there's my vertical/horizontal "reconciliation" theory

if Lincoln just HAD TO "stake their style" on the grille...
...would still *By Design* be able to morph/develop quickly

I really liked the Sable and Taurus from 2008 & 2009. In all black with chrome wheels, the EB3.5L, and AWD, the Sable could've been the basis for a next gen Marauder - a big, fast, luxurious sports sedan.
