No Ford EcoBoost 1.6 recall for Europe
By Graeme Roberts | 7 December 2012
Ford won't recall vehicles sold in Europe with the 1.6-litre EcoBoost turbocharged engine that prompted a fire risk recall in the US.
"We conducted a thorough investigation of the vehicles in Europe with the 1.6-litre engine and determined there is no similar issue in Europe and no need for recall," Ford Europe spokesman Mark Truby told USA Today.
Ford had said earlier this week it was investigating reports of seven fires in Europe in vehicles fitted with the engine which is made in the UK, the report said.
Over 80,000 have been built since 2010 for use in six Ford vehicle model lines in Europe but engineers have decided the European fires do not appear related to the US events and no recall is necessary.

Raj Nair, Ford's vice president of global product development says Ford has full faith in the 1.6-liter EcoBoost engine, which has been used in Europe since 2010. More than 80,000 have been made in Europe, where there have been no recalls, but where the engine has a different cooling system.

Not entirely certain, but I assume just the basic cost difference in the engines if all else is equal. I'm waiting on the new car from out of the dealers inventory. Even after the announced "fix" I still am certain to get the 2.0. I don't trust this 1.6 engine anymore and it is somewhat underpowered.
Let's see, several recalls with in the last few years and falling ratings in the Consumer Reports, anybody else think the same old Ford is rearing its ugly head again? Don't get me wrong, I've been a Ford man since birth, but I also have common sense and taste in several vehicles. These recalls and those ugly European designed sedans do not make me want to come rush to the showroom to buy a new Ford. In my opinion, I find the new Ford Escape, Ford Fusion, and these new hybrids to be god awful ugly, and judging by these lower ratings poor in overall quality. My mother is about to trade in her 2008 Ford Escape with less than 40k miles because the piece of crap is literally coming un-glued at the seams, and my 2007 Ranger dog tracks something fierce because the mounting points for the leaf spring hangers were not drilled properly into the frame from the factory. This company needs to get better quality into their vehicles, and for the love of god some decent designers, if they ever want my business again. Not trying to offend anyone but that is just my opinion.
What is the status of this supposed fix now?
My April registered 2011 Focus Titanium 1.6 ecoboost has been showing signs of same prolem as of last week. Temp gauge showing big flustuations in temp, no power and having to slow down to coll off engine. fan racing when turning off engine. Local ford dealer unable to find fault on diagnostics but car aback in again today as undriveable. Don't fancy getting burnt and stranded in rural Northumberland. WC Morpeth
