& I predict we'll continue to hear it long after it's no longer true (which it may or may not be Now)
gonna have to piece-together different reviews to GLEAN the truth imho

Ford has made it a habit to release the car a couple years prior to the engine that belonged in it from the get go arrives.

Orignal Fusion arrived with the old, tired 3.0 then was upgraded to the newer 3.5 a couple years after.
The 2010 'Stang was released with the old, tired 4.6 then was upgraded to the 5.0 the next year.
The MKZ I'm sure is going to be next like you said with the Nano.

In each case they released a car that was head and shoulders better then its predecessor, with one ridiculous exception, powertrain.

but
I'm a bit forgiving about it; imho they're able to 'dictate' when the styling has to be ready but not the engineering. As long as that's within Costs and better-than Good, I'll put up with it being a tad Slow

Wrong the Fusion had BOTH the 3.0 and 3.5 as an option. The 3.0 was an upgrade and the 3.5 was the sport model

I don't think it sucks, "Car and Driver" was probably just expecting a car that was much better and much more luxurious than the Fusion it's based on.
If it will cost $10K-$20K more than a Fusion, it should feel $10K-$20K better. I guess this was made tougher because the 2013 Fusion is already a good car.

It's as if the guys at Ford were aiming the MKZ somewhere in between a Buick LaCrosse and a Cadillac CTS
If Hyundai and Kia can give their luxury sedans a modern RWD platform to set it apart from the lesser FWD mainstream models, Ford should be able to do it.

They did try this a long time ago with the LS, I think they should try it again. Imagine a modern Lincoln LS with MKZ styling.

Give it a well-balanced RWD/AWD platform that can be tuned for luxury and sporty high-performance models.

Giving the car its own styling is a step in the right direction, making it drive and handle differently from lower priced Ford model is an even bigger step in the right direction.
Many people will probably still consider the MKZ as a Lexus ES350 or Acura TL competitor and not as a Cadillac CTS or Mercedes E-class competitor.

I don´t think that the mkz sucks, it looks great, for me it s the best lincoln in the last 6 years, but I agree with you, they should build a car in the rwd platform of the mustang
