Thanks MKII, I couldn't find that as an option on Ford's website so I figured it wasn't offered!

Re: MkZ tested by Car and Driver

I did not read that C&D "hated" the MKZ, but rather just saw it as another car in the entry luxo pack, and not one that jumped into the lead. I imagine that anyone buying one would like it, but probably not any better than an ES, CTS, or similar. Lincoln is struggling to create a new image. Others already have one, but need to be careful that they don't lose it, BMW being of note here. The Ultimate Driving Machine is becoming just another set of cars in the luxo field, surrendering their vaunted handling and performance and trying to Lexusize themselves. Right now, it is too easy to see Lincoln as a set of Fords with different grilles and interiors and and L on the hood. Lexus started out that way, but slowly differentiated themselves from Toyota. Lincoln needs to put that effort in high gear.

Lincoln, and Cadillac moved away previously from soft close or power trunk lids in this class it seems. However a power trunk lid in , and of itself is not enough to change the appeal of this car in relation to it's competition especially when you consider that it's main competitor offers this option.

Let's face it - for about $50K , there is no car better equipped than the 2013 MKZ. You can get specific features on one car and other features on a different one. But if you want them all, there is not much competition. Otherwise, I wouldn't be looking at the MKZ in the first place.
Keep in mind if you will that I am talking about cars a class below the MKZ not it's actual competition. Truth be told no amount of money will provide you a V8 engine or RWD in the MKZ , and my 300C is able to match almost every other feature that the MKZ has.

On a side note.. how come the Taurus offered a heated steering wheel now? That really should be a Lincoln only feature.
Should Ford do as GM has done in the past , and protect Lincoln when they have already it seems decided that Lincoln is only worth a relatively minimal as well as cautious investment?

The lack of differentiation especially inside between this car, and the Fusion is quite simply easily shaded by the Lexus ES in relation to it's relatively plebeian platform mates.

Re: MkZ tested by Car and Driver

Having driven the MKZ, but only on back roads, I found it a delight. It was a FWD V6 model, and it feels vastly different than my Fusion Sport. I love the simple D & S drive modes. The S really does make it feel crisp and lively and quick in all aspects of driving, right down to how it soaks up bumps. If you are cruising down any highway, and it's in D, it strikes a nice balance. Having this simple mode makes a lot of sense for this demographic. If that is not sporty enough for you, then you will love the performance version, complete with a Nano GTDI motor and standard AWD.

Lincoln is in fact carving out it's own niche, tapping into a long legacy of luxury cars.

my favorite rebuttal to trolls lately is
WHAT IF Lincoln is fully dedicated to "Luxury" but also committed to doing it their own way which is different from anybody else?

It’s not a journey. Every journey ends, but we go on. The world turns and we turn with it. Plans disappear. Dreams take over. Yet wherever I go, there you are. My luck, my fate, my fortune. MERCURY. It's inevitable.

I like that rebuttal. Big thumbs up.

I am a huge Ford fan, and an even bigger Lincoln fan now. Why? Because I have seen Lincolns future. Well, at least enough of it to know that they are going to be much more than just OK.

    That's great to hear, wingsnut!

I'm also interested in the nano and in the "bespoke" program as well - hopefully, both will be available in 2 years when I'm going to pull the trigger on a MY15 MKZ. Do you by any chance know if these features will be offered by then?

I also hope they will be able to offer the performance package on the top trim level (Preferred) by then..

Hey Wings, that is good to hear. It is nice to hear the voice of reason on this site, vs the cluster**** that every Lincoln thread turns into, on that "other" site.

Of course, with one of the biggest voices of non reason from elsewhere here now, I see this thread became a cluster also.

I will be interested to see how peoples tune changes once more of Ford/Lincolns plan falls into place. I am also looking forward to seeing the new MKZ on the road, as it is a very striking car.

Re: MkZ tested by Car and Driver

Should have been filling lots by now, the MKZ. I also think that as it fills the streets, it will get lots more attention at the dealership also.
The performance version will surely do that, however.

But I can't talk up the next MKX enough. Just gorgeous. Even the new Edge, which is of course differentiated even more, looks great.

And are we not allowed to mention that sister site here, LOL. That site is a joke. You literally can't talk up a Ford product without the GM trolls ganging up, and don't even try to bring negative remarks into GM threads, because they's da Shite, don't ya know.

This site is great. We let anyone talk about anything.

Wingsnut, your input is highly appreciated!

I'm also a member on jeepgarage and they also have a few members who can "see behind the curtain" - it is such a great value to have somebody like that on here as well.

Now, if you don't mind me asking: When you are talking about a "performance version" of the MKZ, are you talking about a different trim-line with a different/new engine or are you talking about the 2013 MKZ as we know it but simply equipped with the Handling Package? I certainly don't expect you to provide us with any detailed info but maybe you can clarify that point. Thanks!
