It is sad times when the FORD following can't get info from Ford...
over at the GM site where they fear:
The extended MKS (as in an 'L' edition with much larger trunk)
and talk of all the new cars...
Yet, it's Christmas (MERRY CHRISTMAS!) and not a word from Ford...
I'm still a Ford man (that means Lincoln too) and it would be nice for a present
perhaps in time for the New Year? !!!
    Maybe

don't have time&patience right now to ascertain who you addressed that question to, TaurusSHO
    but
    here's a link to a GMI post about a no-longer-available Edmund's article back in Sept 2005

Ford will use the new power plant on several other vehicles, including the Ford Five Hundred (the car's current 203-hp V6 is underpowered) and Mercury Montego sedans, plus two forthcoming Lincoln sedans, code-named D385 and E386. The D385, which will arrive in 2007 on Ford's D3 platform, will replace Lincoln's lame-duck LS sedan; E386 will be the flagship Lincoln, riding on a long-wheelbase version of D3 and arriving in 2008.

Supplier sources say the V6 is also likely to appear on two forthcoming crossovers, known as D471 and D472. The former is a Ford, which is likely to be called "Freestyle" and to take the place of traditional minivans in Ford's lineup; D472 is a Lincoln version of the vehicle.
there was also considerable webtalk about the E386 later while anticipating the 3.5v6 and the MKS (D385).

A long wheelbase fo the new MKZ (with a slightly more formal roof than the new Z) might be a better vehicle until a proper MKS replacement is ready.

If they do a LWB MkZ it would probably be for China.

I find it quite amazing that Mercury's performance history is so easily forgotten when they produced vehicles like this.

I am not forgetting, but look at how many years ago that was besides the Marauder. And the Marauder was way too heavy it wasn't fast enough a V6 Camry could out perform it 0-60

    well, the nextgen, CD4.3 Taurus & (presumably?) the MKS-or-its-replacement will be on an enlarged** MKZ/Fusion/Mondeo platform;
so that sorta counts / done deal

** will most likely be wider too (at least )

Re: Lincoln: Dead Brand Walking, or Signs of Life?

I may be in the minority here, but I really wouldn't care and would actually like to see Ford drop Lincoln. In my opinion the new MKZ is hideous as well as the rest of the Lincoln lineup with the exception of the MKX. If you ask me I still think Ford was wrong by dropping Mercury in favor of Lincoln. Mercury should have been kept and all this money being spent on Lincoln should have went to Mercury's revival, seeing how Mercury was actually created within the Ford Motor Company by Edsel Ford. But no Ford decides to keep and reinvent a brand that was purchased from an outsider.
