The company also is developing a new family of highly efficient engines under the internal program code Nano, the sources said. The small-displacement V6 engines will employ Ford's EcoBoost technology, including turbocharging and direct injection.

The first of the Nano engines, a 2.9-liter V6, isn't likely to appear until 2016 or later, the sources said.

It would be great to see these mileage improvements strictly due to weight and drag reduction.

Current 3.7 V6 could get 20 city/ 26 highway MPG

what's most important imho, is that Lincoln get it first
&
can easily see (eventually) the Nano being a top engine on a Ford model while it's the std engine on Lincoln's version (á là Fusion/MKZ's 2.0EB)

otoh, I've been wondering if for hybrid engines, Lincoln might get a 2.3 4cyl while Ford (mostly?) stays with the 2.0 (or even changes to the not-here-yet 1.5 3cyl)?
