Looking Back: 1987 Mercury Cougar XR7 Promotional video

Like Ford with the T-bird, Mercury restyled its Cougar for 1987, but the top XR-7 model again went its own way by losing its turbo four in favor of a 150-horsepower 302 V8, a sensible switch. The base LS gain carried the 120-hp 3.8 liter V6. Cougars 1987 sales were good, but not as great as the 1986 tally, which fell 31,000 to 104,526. The XR-7 listed at $15,832, the base LS at $13,595...

I may be in the minority but I love the look of the Fox triplets (T-Bird, Cougar, Mark VII). Great video and flash back in time. Thanks for this!

I loved the "Aero Birds", the Mark VII, and my love of Mercury is well-known.

I also loved the next generation of all three, and really miss the TBird SC I let go some years back....

I had a Thunderbird Turbo Coupe, and Super Coupe but I always had a soft spot for these big coupes.

I love big, five-passenger coupes and was always a fan of the T-Bird Turbo, Sport, and SC and at least as much of the Cougar XR-7 SC and V8. I wish Ford would make one now off the Mustang chassis.

Love this car. This seemed more in touch with the times, and the next gen cougar went the wrong way.

I also like how the Cougar and T-Bird of these years had different roof lines, same with the next gen.

    I always wanted a 90's XR-7 in bright red with a scV6 or V8.

I am of the opposite side of the fence than you! I loved the 89 XR7, so low and wide! I remember building a number of scale model kits of a black one. Loved that design!
