I'm surprised too - expected something futuristic rather than near-production...

This truck looked like it was mated with past and current trucks such as: current F-150, current Super Duty, Super Chief Concept, and Tonka.

Also the Explorer for the tail lights.

PickupTrucks.com suggests since the concept was even bigger than the current, maybe Ford will make room for a smaller truck.

Also, they got the impression that this wasn't a full look at the production truck. The concept only previewed fuel saving technologies.

I was wondering how they were going to incorporate the "Global Ford" design into the F150 without losing it's signature square ruggedness but I think they hit it out of the park. It seems as though they softened the design while also making it look more badass. I love it.

I hate to say it as a former GM (truck only) devotee, but dang the new Sierra/Silverado just seem really pathetic now. It's like they're still playing catch-up with the current F150 and Ford swings at them with a truck that seems generations ahead.

Active wheel shutters would seem to defy the reason for wheels to have designs. Plus, the openings in the wheels help with brake cooling. This would require Ford to design brake cooling ducts/channels to make up for any lost airflow from the wheel shutters. The bigger point for me are the lights. I was thrilled to see the enhanced Ram 1500 offer projector beam lenses & LED front park/turn lights & rear LEDs. The 2014 Sierra/Silverado offer the projectors with the Sierra offering LEDs in front. But, Ford has stepped their game up as well. Ford offers HID lights with their projectors for 2013. I can obtain LEDs on my own & they can work like I'd want them to, so the HIDs take a higher precedent.

I expect at least mid 20's fuel economy hwy
750 lbs.? Hmmm... I know I'll believe it when I see (or drive) it. We haven't heard that Ford will have an 8-speed (or the 9/10-speed jointly developed with GM) ready for the 2015's launch. As stated before, with the Ram 1500 being rated at 25 hwy with only better aero & more gears, the F150 should hit numbers that would make 25 MPG look thirsty.

Me too. I would expect at least 28 mpg.

I wonder when the 10 speed trannies will be ready for both Ford and GM?

    Couple of things regarding this.

the fuel economy numbers for RAM are 18/25 with an average of 21.5mpg with the V6 and 8 speeds. The Hemi has not been rated yet with 8 speeds, and is currently at 14/20 with an average of 17mpg. The hwy rating will go up a bit, but I don’t expect the city to budge much, so I expect to see 15/23 with an average of 19mpg. That sounds about right.

The Ford will benefit all the way around, especially performance.
So the current EcoBoost truck has 16/22mpg with a 6 speed, already far better than the Hemi.
Take away at least 700lbs, add several gears(ready at launch or not), and with the 20% improvement on next EcoBoost, will easily best the 8 speed hemi, and will probably come close to the V6 Ram……but with far more power. And performance, due to all those benefits.

I am guessing 19/26, when all is said and done.

Far better than a base V6 Ram.

    I'm getting 23 HWY with a 13 5.0 & 3.55's now at 65. I would hope 28 HWY with the V6 & 9-10 speed would be doable.
