Mustang V6's electronically limited Top Speed

The USDM 120hp Fiesta 1.6 has a Top Speed of 119mph
The USDM 160hp Focus 2.0 has an electronically limited Top Speed of 122mph (elsewhere its 130mph+)
The 305hp Mustang V6 has a Top Speed of 113mph

Why is the Mustang V6 limited to a lower speed than the Focus and Fiesta?
Why is the Fiesta and Focus allowed to have a higher Top Speed?

One of the reasons I know, is the cheap drive shaft used, it cannot handle the high rotational speed. GT's have a different (more expensive) drive shaft that allows higher speeds.

It's just strange to know that the V6 Mustang is slower than the little base Fiesta.
Hope the next base Mustang is given a better drive shaft.

I've always hoped that Ford would make a V6 Mustang model that includes the Pony Package, the Performance Package, the Recaro seats, a performance exhaust, and a drive shaft and other mechanical and electronic modifications that allow a drag-limited top speed. This type of model would compete directly with the 370Z and Genesis 3.8R-Spec coupe.

You CAN get a Pony Package (premium) or a Performance Package (in either manual or automatic, base or premium), but not together. You can get Recaros.

I just spent the last hr trying to find an answer to the drive shaft question! (1. because I like Mustangs 2. because I was curious if Ford had addressed the issue yet. )

From everything I've read the old two piece drive shaft had a problem for a couple of reasons. Harmonic vibration being the result. It occurred under deceleration..........jumping off, rather than lifting off the throttle at 135 mph would cause a vibration (not good!). Ford put in a 9 lb weight at the end of the already heavy driveshaft to help (??? sounds like they were aware of the vibration?) balance the diveshaft under load.

IF you chip it and raise the top speed (and if you're stupid enough to drive 140 on public roads) I'd get a driveshaft loop. The "problem" car also had suspension changes that may have thrown off the driveshaft angle. You can always get a true high performance aftermarket aluminum 1 piece for 11/12/13 Mustangs.

The Mustang already beats the Genesis 3.8R Spec Coupe....in everything but top speed.
