    2014 Chevrolet SS

This is your 2014 Chevrolet SS

Think you've waited long enough for this? If so, then you'll want to savor the high-res photos we've so far been given of the 2014 Chevrolet SS, the first rear-wheel-drive performance sedan from The Bowtie in 17 years.

We all know its our version of the brand new VF-model Holden Commodore, but what's under the hood that earns the appellation "performance?" A 6.2-liter LS3 V8 engine producing 415 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque. That's 35 hp and lb-ft less than the same engine is expected to produce in the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette. Chevrolet says the sedan will get from 0-to-60 miles per hour "in about five seconds."

Shifting comes courtesy of a six-speed automatic with paddles on the steering wheel, while stopping arrive via four-piston Brembo calipers up front, a single sliding piston in back. The forged aluminum wheels are 19-inchers all around, each set supporting right around 50 percent of the sedan's weight, and the aluminum hood and trunk are meant to keep the center of gravity low.

I guess this answers the question why the Impala has no "SS" version to compete against the Taurus SHO, Chevy has a legit RWD performance sedan here with a near 50:50 weight distribution, a 415hp engine and a 0-60mph time of 5.0 seconds.

I wonder when Ford plans to make a Mustang for the Family, an updated Falcon with a provision for LHD would be nice.

Oh, here we go again.... Ford need a RWD platform for a Ford and Lincoln sport-sedan. This could be based on the Mustang. The ask is when this will occur?

Whatever, this SS not impress me. Is a so-so sedan, with a bland and dated body that have a good powerplant.... That is all

Lincoln might get (an expensive luxury trimmed one), but there might not be an affordable Ford version since the next all-new Falcon (after the final facelift of the current RWD model) might be merged with the next Taurus, same way Ford merged the Mondeo & Fusion and the Kuga & Escape.

This is basically Version 2.0 of the Holden-made 415hp 6.2 liter Pontiac G8 GXP, a car that enthusiasts consider a good (relatively affordable depending on where you live) performance car, regardless of their brand loyalty.

What does this make the 4,343lbs, Taurus SHO? FWD-based and no manual.
For those who live in North America, this is probably the closest one can get to having a roomy 4-door 5-seater ponycar.
If you live in Australia, then you have the Ford Falcon XR6 Turbo and FPV models.

I would rather buy the better looking Pontiac G8 which doesn't look as dated as the yet to be released ss.

That Ford Falcon SR6 or FPV model, whatever it is, the body needs a redo! Bland looking!

The front end is bland yet its got some many different angles and shapes.

Of the Aussie-Car to North America remakes, this is a bit better than the GTO, but far worse than the G8.
