How can you really explain how an mkZ which is a letter further down the alphabet is not actually bigger nor does it have high prestige than a mkS? How do you get the difference between a CUV/SUV/car out of mkc MKS mkt mkz mkx? ????
Nobody cares.
They go into a Lincoln dealer, buy what they can afford, and then tell everyone they bought a Lincoln.
Pretty sure they will remember which one too.

Aside from about one letter advantage, Cadillac is in the same boat.

I saw a Mercedes-Benz dealer ad like that not too long ago. The girl was so happy about how affordable they were. She said they were comparable to a Ford and Chevy in price.

Yup, agreed.
Chicks could care less, by far most of them, what letters are attached to the vehicle.
Guys mostly don't care, and the ones who pay attention, have no problem remembering.

And letter confusion exists pretty much in every brand that uses them. I am always confusing them. But if i go to a showroom, I know what I am getting.

well
imho both started when short-term thinking was still in practice at both
so
-- I not surprised that things have gotten "sticky" (get it? MucK=sticky )
-- but am AMAZED that it could all work out ........for Lincoln
-- Caddy imho will decide re-Naming "cannot be done"

BMW group and product naming is getting worse, by creating a whole seperate 'series' just because it's a coupe or convertible based on the same car. Then calling some 4-door sedans 'coupes', and 5-door hatchbacks Grand coupes, and creating Franken-hatchbacks like X6.

Which means Cadillac is going the generic route like Audi.

Lincoln can do well it's current naming convention, as long as they hold the actual 'name' to the top of the line vehicle:

MKA
MKC
MKE
MKZ
MKS
Continental

MKX
MKV(Aviator)
Navigator
Or they can call them as follows:

MKA = MARK 1
MKC = MARK 2
MKE = MARK 3
MKZ = MARK 4
MKS = MARK 5
Continental

MKX = MARK 6
MKV(Aviator) = MARK 7
Navigator.

There is no polite way to say this so I'll just put it here... F'CK NO! Do NOT tarnish the Mark series.

Re: Caddy prepping for Real Names? - AutoNews

but
the "MK" stands for Mark
so it's already "tarnished"

Re: Caddy prepping for Real Names? - AutoNews

Maybe, but ai dont think in Mark when I hear Lincoln's names. I prefer to think in... Hmm... I don't know... Mickey! Mickey S Mickey T Mickey Z etc etc. the Mark name should be reserved only for the most luxurious and expensive Lincoln coupe. And since that doesn't exist right now, then there is no Mark.

Re: Caddy prepping for Real Names? - AutoNews

If an automaker is consistent and has a naming scheme that makes sense I don't mind alphanumerics. F-series trucks is a great example; the bigger the number the bigger the truck. And the E-series followed that scheme, which made it even more useful and logical.

Personally though, I prefer real names. It's probably less important to non-car fans, but for those of us that love cars and 'connect' with them to a degree, a proper name is better.
