Cadillac Plotting $300K Bentley-Fighting SUV

Quote:
Cadillac is planning two models that will cost between $250,000 and $300,000.

According to a report from GM Inside News, the American automaker is looking into developing an ultra-luxury SUV and sedan, both of which will compete with the likes of Bentley and Rolls-Royce.

The new SUV model would sit above the Escalade (rumored to soon be called the XT8), directly targeting the Bentley Bentayga, Rolls-Royce Cullinan, Lamborghini Urus, Maserati Levante and Aston Martin DBX. Expected to sport the XT9 nameplate, it will serve as Cadillacís halo SUV model with pricing starting around $250,000.

Considering the Cadillac XT8 isnít hitting the market until 2020 at the earliest, donít expect to see the XT9 make its debut until around 2027.

Currently the CT6 is the American automakerís flagship sedan, but thereís a CT8 in the works that will serve as a Mercedes-Benz S-Class and BMW 7 Series fighter. Planning to make its debut around 2029 will be the CT9, sporting a price tag around $300,000 aimed to compete with high-end luxury sedans like those from Rolls-Royce.

It is strange....
The Queen... she drives a beat-up Rover when she wants a SUV
The rich 'oil' guys, I guess that they are compensating for something.
I wish for a quiet, mid-performance SUV that seats 7 and can take
some equipment/baggage along.

XT8 just rolls off the tongue and sounds like a $300,000 car doesn't it?

Re: Cadillac Plotting $300K Bentley-Fighting SUV

GM has some very interesting product planners. Cadillac struggles to compete with BMW, Mercedes and Audi, but they're going to target RR and Bentley on top of that. I can see some of the logic in that, if you're able to build a better RR/Bentley, that should cast quite the halo over the lesser vehicles in your lineup. On the flip side though, there is a reason RR/Bentley make no effort to compete with BMW/Mercedes/Audi, it's because there is no other automotive segment in which exclusivity matters more than that of the ultra luxury land yachts for the ultra rich snobs of the world.

It's gonna be interesting even if it's not ultimately successful.

This is close to the Lincoln approach
Exclusive: Quiet Cabin 30-adjustmenst to seats, auto everything.
Power: 'Adequate' (although Lincoln will quote the number.)
They just need the oversized Convertible NOT MUSTANG
and matching Coupe along with an extended wheelbase limo-size.
I have to think that it's coming

^ @bomt1

perhaps someone at GM finally figured out that building for performance & "Excitement" equates their Cadillacs to a mere-premium/hiatus'ed Brand?

How long did it take to sell Cadillac V16s?
It only promoted the V12s!
Is it a promo vehicle? or a top-end contender?
