Ironically the REAL problem, GM is just now opening the can of worms on, was +/- 5 years before the SUA claims, but GM case, I think it could end up being much worse, they acknowledged a REAL issue and basically ignored/buried it. Toyota denied a problem existed, that nobody could ever prove existed.

SUA never existed. Even when the Haters convinced NASA to inspect what they thought were "deadly" parts they couldn't find anything.

Toyota got railroaded by idiot journalists and just said "F*ck It....I got some spare change laying around. Take this."
*JUST*imho

software + sensors + maybe actuators = insufficient testing & possibly bad 'methods'
(plus a less than ideal accelerator pedal design)

Re: Toyota admits deceiving consumers; $1.2-billion penalty is record

Does this really make any difference? People will still buy Toyotas simply because they are TOYOTAs and are perceived to be the best. People do not care that they are helping to boost the corporate profits of a company in Japan helping the Japanese economy. Toyotas and other Japanese makes are all over the USA but just how many American cars are built or even sold in Japan?
