Heh, anyways, loving the Volvo. I mean, how the heck do they make a FWD car look like that? This is gonna hurt, but I think it looks like a better Continental Concept.

Re: Volvo Unveils 2017 S90

I fail to realise how Mazda and Volvo can accomplish these great proportions for fwd vehicles and Ford continues to roll out Lincoln's with frumpy proportions and the upcoming Contiental, no matter how good the styling is, STILL has horrible proportions

The S90 has proportions similar to the Continental Concept but the design is not in the same class. Simply because of the proportions however, the S90 will look better than the production Continental.

And to think Ford once owned Jaguar and Volvo, both of which are outpacing poor Lincoln in product advances. The new owners of Jaguar and of Volvo INVESTED in their respective brands. Ford invests only on Fords and then dumbwaiters the results upstairs to Lincoln for modification.

Compared to the Continental Concept, the S90 has a more cab-rearward design with a greater dash to axle ratio like a RWD car.

Re: Volvo Unveils 2017 S90

Volvo, Mazda, and Land Rover simply couldn't achieve what they are doing now under Ford and we saw how long it took to recover from that dysfunctional relationship. Lincoln has been under it much longer but things are changing and we should see incrementally better products until Lincoln can match the engineering and technology of Europe and Japan. Lincoln is still doing amazing things with very inexpensive non-luxury platforms but we are still a long-way from relevance.

As for the Continental, it'll be a nice Lincoln, but this is a highly competitive segment and Lincoln's aspirations are modest and so are mine.

Re: Volvo Unveils 2017 S90

Here is a comparison of the very cab rearward CT6 and new Conti, side by side.

The extreme cab rearward looks strange to me, even badly done. Balance is needed, not just in the front, and Conti achieves that better, IMO.

What can I say, I am a rear end kind of guy. (No Greek jokes please)

But my point stands, that proportions are like a recipe, and not everyone tastes the same thing, because we all have different tastes.

EXACTLY! - This is one thing that seems to come up so often, yet totally escapes me; either a car looks good to me or it doesn't, while I want a car to ride nice and handle well, I also want utility, when I see long hood just because, I see "wasted space" big/long car but small cabin a trunk.

Re: Volvo Unveils 2017 S90

I too appreciate the styling of the old classic full sized luxury cars, with the long hood and equally long trunk....and of course compromised internal space as a result.

...but I think what some automakers result to instead, is large front hoods only and compromised rear end. Getting it all with larger interior, seems to be impossible without making it immense.

And what Cadillac appears to be repeating with the CT6 in a sense, is a design from the past, along with all it's compromises.

I think Conti strikes a better overall balance, and that opinion does not just appear to be mine, but the general consensus of the media at every event where they were shown side by side.
