The thread on GMI is all over the place I pipped in for the first time on GMI in a long time and right away was called 'sunshine' because I didn't care for how JDN was running things.

A few things and this is all IMO. I didn't like the move from Detroit to NY, I didn't like the new logo losing the wreath, I didn't like the revamped alphanumeric naming scheme, and most of all I didn't like Cadillac not being Cadillac. They want to compete with the Germans fine, totally fine with that but don't forget who you are and where you came from and Cadillac to me really lost a lot of it's identity over the past few reboots. I would love to see real names come back to the brand like Eldorado which I think is a name too good not to use and looks good next to Escalade. I hope they right the ship and start doing things right the brand while 'damaged' has a ton of potential still. Not sure if his replacement is the right guy but time will tell.

Part of the problem may have been with US numbers:
2013 182,543
2014 170,750
2015 175,267
2016 170,006
2017 156,440

Cadillac has been painfully slow to add crossovers to their lineup. While other brands have caught on and added them like crazy Cadillac has 1 crossover and 1 massive SUV in its lineup currently. 1 on the way but not in show rooms soon enough. These type of things need to be accounted for. You want halo vehicles and cars that can hold the road well fine but you need to keep with the trend of the market too.

Stealing post from GMI:

“We agree to disagree and we move on,” de Nysschen told Bloomberg. “There wasn’t a fight. Let’s call it philosophical differences.”

The abrupt change, according to two people familiar with the decision, was a result of de Nysschen’s reluctance to accelerate product and operating plans and capitalize on current U.S. market conditions, where industry sales remain healthy. GM executives, the sources said, acknowledge that it takes time to rebuild a brand but there needs to be more commitment to the here and now, rather than the future.

Blame Lincoln for Caddy's loss of sales.

Several issues I have noticed
XT4 needed to be a knockout, but it just doesn't look special.
No word on the XT8 (or whatever they call it) three row
The last redesigned Escalade retained less than adaquate passenger room for the size.
XLS is the affordable choice for hotel shuttle/airport/funeral/limo, but there were rumors of axing it. This would leave the CT6, which is not sized or priced for the purpose.
ATS and CTS needed to be combined into one model offering sedan/coupe/convertable.
Marketing was more about people than vehicles.

And I agree with the points Andrew brought up.

Possibly, but I think the bigger issue is the fact that Cadillac is so far behind on the crossover game it's sad. Don't get me wrong I still think there's a market for luxury sedans but you need to follow the trend of customers and right now crossovers are a hot ticket. If I want a luxury crossover/SUV right now and I go to my local luxury dealerships this is what I will find

BMW:
X1
X2
X3
X4
X5
X6

Audi:
A4 allroad
Q3
Q5
SQ5
Q7

Mercedes:
GLA
GLC
GLE
GLS
G-Class

Lincoln:
MKC
MKX
MKT
Navigator

Lexus:
NX
RX
GX
LX

Infiniti:
QX30
QX50
QX60
QX70
QX80

Cadillac:
XT5
Escalade

Notice something?

will be interesting to see if more Cuvs helps them - I Think NOT - will just divide the sales

"In a statement, General Motors indicates that de Nysschen is leaving to pursue other interests."

It sounds like the Dutchman de Nysschen is going to another automaker....
