Jaguar Shows Frankfurt-Bound C-X16 "Production Concept" Sports Car

Jaguar Shows Frankfurt-Bound C-X16 "Production Concept" Sports Car
AUGUST 16, 2011
Carscoop

This is the first official image or rather sketch of the all-new Jaguar C-X16 study which will make its world premiere at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show on September 13.
The British automaker describes the C-X16 as a "production concept" adding that it is a "precursor to future Jaguar sports cars that will aim to set new class benchmarks in design, vehicle dynamics and technology".

Jaguar did not say whether the C-X16 previews a replacement for the current XK or as recent reports suggested, a new and smaller model lightly inspired from the iconic E-Type that would rival the Porsche Cayman and Boxster sports cars.

Among the few details revealed about the C-X16 is that it is designed by the same team responsible for the XJ, XF and XK, headed of course by Jaguar Director of Design Ian Callum, who had this to say about the study:

ok, I know this is only a sketch

but
C'MON
[ omitting pix & comments of the XJ220, XJS, & XKE ]

Soooo
I'm gonna take this opportunity to turn this into a LINCOLN thread
esp. after reading posts about some "new" BMW 6-series photos...
WHAT ARE THESE MFGS DOING?

Sportscars that have no reasons not to look like starships™,
yet barely look more swoopy than sedans!
(yeah, maybe since it's a Jag it'll be more impressive in person but...)

imho
this a perfect opportunity for Lincoln to hire some sci-fi artists to give a futuristic polish to whatever their new look is going to be
Do something that makes the other guys' cars look like what their styling IS > my great grandfather's!!!

my 3 main suggestions are
- flush-glass/no visible B-pillar ... what They forgot how??
- eliminate side mirrors for tiny camera "wings" that retract when the car's turned off
- invisible headlights and tail lights - whether the HLs are covered with "eyelids" or the TLs are tiny slits with LEDs... EVERYBODY else (mostly) is so tasteless with huge HLs (Audi gets Special Mention for ruining LEDS so quickly!)
and the last TL "new look" was the 90's Altezza chrome-bling

I think it getting to be Bite The Future
or Barf The Past

I agree. The sketch is boring... nothing new... looks like a Baby Aston Martin... not bad, but nothing that turn me crazy to buy it rigth now.
The sport cars needs to to bring us something different, something that induce us to buy the car

Look at this car:

I want this car rigth now!!!! If Chevrolet can offer me a modern car like this , i will go to the dealer and buy it with cash!

I would love to see Lincoln produce a true luxury sport coupe. But I don't think I'll hold my breath.............

It shouldn't be too hard to do a 2-door sport coupe off the MKS (or LWB revised MKS) Use the formula similar to the '80's Jaguar XJS coupe/convertible. Only with better rear seat leg room. Take the current MKS or MKT wheelbase and design a long, low hood and profile. More like a sophisticated Mustang but not invading Mark9 territory because Mark 9 would be reserved for something RWD.

Maybe Jaguar should bring back a proper XJ-S again.
