Refreshed Mustang Spy Photos

Refreshed Ford Mustang spied testing on public roads

The current Ford Mustang has only been on sale for about two years, but it appears the car is set for a mild refresh. Our spy photographer caught a heavily camouflaged prototype running around on public roads. This doesn't appear to be the GT500 or the Mach 1 prototypes that we've previously seen out testing.

When it comes to sales, the Mustang is currently kicking in the Camaro's teeth. That doesn't seem to have stopped Ford from continuing to improve the car. While the profile remains the same, every panel on this car, save the roof, has some sort of camouflage. The big changes seem to be happening in the front and rear, but it's difficult to make out any details.

The headlights and taillights are nearly completely covered, but it looks like they retain the current design. This car is wearing Brembo brakes, but it doesn't appear to have particularly aggressive tires or aero, meaning this most likely is an everyday Mustang GT. The rear exhaust does have some emissions equipment attached. This could mean updates to the engine and maybe with a bit more power. We're already expecting the rumored 10-speed automatic that's being developed with GM.

The car in the photos doesn't appear to be a special edition, but the camo over the rear side glass has us pining for an Bullitt edition. Really though, we just want the green paint. Expect to see the refreshed Mustang alongside one of the new special editions in the next few months.

“Camaro kicked in the teeth”.
Gotta Love it.

So when ready, this upgrade will be nearly 3 years from current gen, and typical. This of course will bring along engine and transmission updates as well. And it will coincide with my personal needs for a new lease, and I just might be driving a Mustang again, after nearly 15 years.

Maybe something different is happening with the lower spoiler and fog light area. Also, Fusion got a slightly modified upper grill opening, so Mustang may have an update there, though not like the Fusion.

But what I expect is more modernizing of the rear tail lights. An updated version of the three bar lights may go behind a cover. Along with cleaning up the transition from side to rear with a cleaner, more upscale, more aerodynamic look like the Vantage below(while maintaining the three bar design). Remember, the Mustang competes with Porsche in Europe.

Remember, Ford owned Aston Martin, which is where the current version of the new Ford front grill comes from.

I've seen the upgrade and the biggest difference really is the fact that the grille and fascia look lower, slimmer, but wider and the headlights have a Fusion-like "arrow" LEDs. It actually looks allot like the Fusion in some ways, just without the flush grille.

- I *Love* the 3D-ness of the Stang's TLs
- tho might be ok with sculptural forms behind a clear cover that's smooth
- used the Aston's for a Merc-XR6 chop way back when
- still believe a 3rd/diff style ought to be EXPECTED for
