After months of not knowing, the power figures for the 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 are finally here. The supercharged V8 will put out 760 horsepower and 625 lb-ft of torque. Basically, itís enough to drag down the moon.
Back in January, we learned that the GT500 would have at least 700 horsepower, which would either have put it dead-even or above the Hellcats. It seems now the Ford has more power than even the 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1. Itís only five horsepowers more so who is even counting, but itís still five more! These kinds of small differences matter during lunchtime recess discussions.
The GT500 is powered by a 5.2-liter, supercharged, cross-plane crank V8. Itíll send all that power to the rear wheels, while the all-new, Tremec seven-speed dual-clutch will have a job attempting to sort it all out.
Ford claims in its press release that the new GT500 is the most powerful street-legal car that itís ever made. How usable are all 760 of those horsepowers? Itís unclear, but Iíd bet that burnouts, donuts and screaming tires are all part of the standard features.
