Toyota will build another SUV in Alabama

For those who say that sedans are alive.... here more bad news. Toyota will build a new SUV in Alabama, replacing the Corolla production, that will be limited to the plant of Mississippi. This is a sign that Toyota expects the sales of the Corolla and, in general, of the sedans to decrease even more in the coming years.

The fun part of this information is what kind of SUV will be build by Toyota. Everything suggests that it will be a rugged one, a version of the FT-4X show car. Will this vehicle be a competition for the Bronco/Baby Bronco? Is Toyota reacting (again) to a Ford product plan? And, I dont want to be ironic , will the "Toyota Bronco" arrive to the market earlier than the "Ford Bronco"?

Here the link. And the pics of the FT-4X

Re: Toyota will build another SUV in Alabama

Toyota has a healthy lead on the rest of the industry in FE, so they are clearly focusing on exciting products for a change. Good for them. This looks great. Love it.

Hmmm nope, Toyota is slowly moving the Corolla production to Mexico - they build that factory for that purpose and Tacomas —just fyi

Edit: I was WRONG...Toyota is only making trucks in Mexico (Tacomas)...

To maintain/increase the Corolla output, they decided instead to invest $170M in Mississipi and expand their plant there to handle demand.

‘Spokeswoman Kathryn Ragsdale said Toyota now can make 170,000 vehicles yearly at the northeast Mississippi plant. Ragsdale didn’t say how much capacity would increase after production lines are replaced.

The spending brings Toyota’s total investment in Mississippi to $1.16 billion. Although Corolla sales are declining right now, Ragsdale said the company believes a 2020 redesign will boost sales. More importantly, the company is pulling Corolla production from its Cambridge, Ontario, plant to build more RAV4 SUVs there.’
