Seems super Volvo to me...which isn't a bad idea, but people would see right through that.
Yeah, I realize it's close to Lexus'. I was just trying to think of something other than more "MK" names, while separating the sedans and crossover designations.

^ altho I doubt any mfg would do it**,
& only for alpha-numerics:

imho it'd be cool for some kind of badge-nomenclature to change with/WHEN the structure/platform/generation changes
so
the SERIES would be part of the marketing - esp replacing the meaningless MK/LS or Cadillac's CT/XT

along those^lines is why when cD6 and A.M.P come out, I'd love to see the END of the MK-Series
adding:
MK-Series-C >> something?Csomething?
MK-Series-X >> something?Xsomething?
MK-Series-Z >> something?Zsomething?
MK-Series-S >> Continental
MK-Series-T >> Aviator
... Navigator >> Navigator
plus the whitespacers: X-Sport(wic), STARstangs(wic), Aviator-Sport(wic)

** a nother thing *I* (& only me) might like is incorporating the "birth-year" of a model until it's refresh/mce/whatev
(Chrysler did this with letters for the 300 back at the dawn of time)
Would diminish the so-called modelyear which imho has become a misnomer anyway & would give the mfg heck if they let things get moldy (a Fordish TRADITION imho)
so this year the Z13 becomes the Z17 etc...
(like I said, I'm prolley the only one who'd like this)
otoh
with a significant running-change a sub/supercript would be fine

Problem with this is when you have a very old platform you are advertising how old it is. Like the Navigator is now

For the replacement to MKC it should be Cosmopolitan. If you think about it, that describes the MKC quite perfectly: A nice compact crossover for the cosmopolitan world. MKZ is, of course, Zephyr. That is what it was all along. MKX could be, what, Xymphonia? A cool spelling of Symphony.

I kinda like the Navicross name they used on the concept back in 2003 or so.

Exclamation ReNEWed RUMOR: Is Lincoln is Ready to Toss the Alphabet Soup?

re-using one of FiN's old threads cuz RMC mentioned forgetting some of his Name suggestions...

No more MK? Lincoln may move back to proper model names
Aviator, Cosmopolitan, Zephyr and Blackwood are among past names

Autoblog-Rumormill
- James Riswick - Oct 31st 2017

With the return of Continental and the emergence of the all-new 2018 Navigator as the defacto Lincoln flagship, it doesn't take a cryptographer to read the writing on the wall: Lincoln is re-embracing proper model names.

During the 2018 Lincoln Navigator first drive press launch, Lincoln group vice president (and now also Ford's chief marketing officer) Kumar Galhotra confirmed that the switch to Continental from what had been the MKS in Lincoln's lineup has indeed been a positive one as increased name recognition has successfully drawn more attention to the large sedan.

However, would a naming switch to something that isn't as recognizable be as successful for another model line?

"I think so," Galhotra said confidently. "It's something we're having a lot of internal discussions about."

As it's hard to see those internal discussions somehow ending with the conclusion that the current MK-whatever system is better, it seems like a safe assumption that the change will eventually happen. If so, perhaps it would occur when the MKC and MKX are inevitably given an update and facelift to match the Continental and Navigator. The already facelifted MKZ? Ah, who knows?

But if Lincoln does make a switch, what proper names are sitting out there in the brand's back catalog? Despite being around for nearly a century, there aren't actually that many. Here are the options:

Lincoln Aviator: Seems like a no-brainer. The Explorer-based SUV from the 2000s was a flop, but the name was fantastic.

Lincoln Zephyr: The original MKZ actually started life as the Zephyr. A switch back wouldn't be crazy.

Lincoln Cosmopolitan: A bit crusty and indicative of the mid-century period, but then so is Continental. This was the Lincoln flagship in the post-war period.

Lincoln Blackwood: A ridiculous attempt at a pickup from the 1990s. Good name, though.

Lincoln Versailles: This was a "midsize" model introduced in the late 1970s. An elegant name, but as certain towns in Indiana and Missouri prove, you will have to teach people not to pronounce it Ver-sales.

Lincoln Mark IX: The last Lincoln "Mark" car was the Mark XIII from the 1990s. Traditionally, Mark cars were coupes, a body style that seems very unlikely for modern Lincoln. Maybe an X6-like SUV/coupe?

Lincoln Capri: This replaced the Cosmopolitan in the early 1950s as the flagship, though too many people probably associate it with Europe's Ford Capri or Mercury's bizarre convertible of the 1990s.

Lincoln Futura: This was actually a concept car rather than a production model, but that exact concept car was actually turned into Adam West's Batmobile. Probably way too '60s sounding.

Lincoln Town Car: No **** way.

Of course, Lincoln could also dig into the greater Ford Motor Company's back catalog. Lincoln Galaxy, Lincoln Comet and Lincoln Starline having a certain adventurous (albeit spacey) ring to them.

Then again, Lincoln could also just come up with new names. Fancy that.

MK really has to go since it just can't work with an expanded lineup. But a large lineup won't work with actual names for all the models.

Re: Is Lincoln is Ready to Toss the Alphabet Soup? UPDATE post#136

^ & hmmm
carCars are getting de-emphasized: imho 3 max for U.S, maybe one more for China (your stretched Focus)
so imho Names are manageable

for CuvSuvs....
*WHAT*IF*, eventually, they used 'Navigator' as a 'family-name' for large ones
and 'Aviator' for smaller ones? ...with suffixes!
...'Nautilus' could even be a 3rd 'family' for süpersport-cuvs - like my Macan-killer? OR for e-cuvs??
also-imho, with new architecture coming, could the old MKs just continue while the new stuff comes out and whither-away rather than be directly replaced??

It's also an opportunity to de-emphasize the Lincoln brand and create sub-brands. One of the reasons most luxury makers use alphanumeric nomenclature is because they have a very large interrelated lineup, but it also focuses attention on the brand instead of the model. In Lincoln's case, it's best to focus on the model since the brand is very weak. And like Buick, Lincoln is only a US and Chinese luxury brand, names work better among those clients. And as Lincoln seeks to capitalize on it's brand of traditional 'retro luxury' and focuses on older customers with longer memories, looking toward the sixties for inspiration is probably best. I'm really digging Lincoln's recommitment to it's core elderly customer, I would definitely resurrect the Town Car and go all-in and try to make the brand as anti-modern as possible.
