Bring back the names for the NA market. Leave the MK_ structure for China. See that, fixed that issue...took me like 3 seconds.

I just want to see Lincoln Sentinel as a C-klasse fighter.

So Ill leave it at that.
Every single time I hear an executive say "leverage heritage" (or some form of it), I cringe. Why? Because USUALLY the only leveraging they are doing is using the name, slapping it on a vehicle that has absolutely ZERO connection to the prior "heritage" vehicles. *bites tongue*

Re: Is Lincoln is Ready to Toss the Alphabet Soup?

Every name has a meaning for someone...
The Mk - true Mark - III, IV & V gave a distinctive style and everyone knew it.
To take that and build the MK onto every piece of metal... I wish that they didn't.
Zephyr in North America doesn't mean as much as it does in the UK.
Continental and Town Car said quite a bit when they were the leaders.
I hope that moving away from everything 'Mark' will be the renewing of past glory
in style and I think that the public will be more inclined to think in terms of
'What is that' as opposed to 'What, another Mk?'

And I am on the fence. Never had a problem with letters, but it seems to be quite the lightening rod, so, why not.
I agree 100%. I too never had a problem with the MK letter scheme. However if Lincoln wants to move forward with vehicle names then that is great. While Continental is iconic, new names should be just that. They should be something new to reflect the rebirth of Lincoln not just some names used decades ago.

Re: Is Lincoln is Ready to Toss the Alphabet Soup?

The problem is the last letter in the MK naming structure doesn't help you determine what size or type of vehicle that you are getting. Outside of us and Ford, knowone else understands the name. I can easily look at BMW/MB/Audi names and determine what type of vehicle and size. As much as I hate Cadillac following the Germans, their new naming structure is one that I agree with and understand. Lincoln should stick with the MK names but instead of using a letter, use a number.

I agree with Borg that Lincoln only has a few names in their history that are actually prestigious and worth still using. Like Wings said, I hated Zephyr and everytime I see one on the road, it reminds me of Lincolns badge only engineering days.

AndrewL, thanks for the history lesson, I didn't know Lincoln had all those names at one point.

Maharaja is kind of a cool name though it doesn't sound American. Stands for great ruler or great king.

Re: Is Lincoln is Ready to Toss the Alphabet Soup?

I really have no clue what Lincoln is going to do. I've predicted that that were going back to regular names, but honestly they cant win regardless. They've worked hard trying to build recognition for the MK that will be lost going back to names. Just not sure what they would call the MKC or MKX. Already got the Continental and Navigator so fine there, could go back to Zephyr for the MKZ. MKT replacement could be the Aviator. Now how about this as an idea. Use actual names for their bread and butter models and then more of a sub-brand of more performance oriented cars use the Mark strategy just replace the 3rd letter with a Roman numeral the like Mark VIII or MK8. IDK just spitballing.
