Continental Will Launch On The Chinese Car Market On November

Lincoln Continental Will Launch On The Chinese Car Market On November 28

The Lincoln Continental will finally launch on the Chinese car market on November 28. Originally it was scheduled to launch in September, what caused the delay is unknown. Price of the Continental will start at 420.000 yuan or $62.000. The Continental will be imported into China, there are no plans for local production.

Re: Continental Will Launch On The Chinese Car Market On November

I think the delay was that the US had to get up and going, and work out any production kinks before hitting the Chinese market. I wonder how the pre-sales are coming along. I just wonder how Lincoln will keep up with NA demand along with China demand, with local US production. Lincoln really has to keep a tight hold onto quality as Lincoln re-builds it's reputation. Which could mean more expansion here in the US to meet China market demand.

That article is stupid. The Continental is very comparable in terms of legroom as the "L" models they mentioned...
Very interesting that this is yet another article that says the Chinese continental will get 9 speed transmission. Pity it didn't launch as the 1st Lincoln with 9 speed in the US.

^ wondering *IF* that 9-speed is true; *IF* it will be the GM-led one or one bought from ZF?
with no local supply-chain and beginner-level sales, that might not be financially adverse

It makes no sense that the Chinese version would get a 9 speed transmission at launch. If that transmission was ready, it would be used in both the US and Chinese versions.

I could maybe be see it used on the 4 cylinder FWD version that we do not get but the article says both engines get it. I do not believe that. The only vehicle using the joint venture 9 speed this year is the Malibu and only in one trim level.

I do not believe that ZF or any other transmission vendor builds a 9 speed transmission suitable for transverse AWD applications with 400 lbs/ft of torque.

What also annoys me is that the Chinese Taurus gets a rear seat entertainment system and our Continental doesn't.

Re: Continental Will Launch On The Chinese Car Market On November

I HATE Forbes software...

The new Lincoln Continental has been launched on the Chinese car market. China is only the third country in the world to get the new Lincoln flagship after the United States and Canada, underscoring the vital importance of China for the Lincoln brand.

Sales are on the up even without the Continental. In the third quarter of this year Lincoln sold 20,988 cars in China, plus 191% compared with the same period in 2016. Lincoln is getting very close to Infiniti which sold 29,000 cars in Q3. They are catching up with Cadillac (77,028), but still very far away from Audi (440,023), BMW (371,976) and Mercedes-Benz (344,791).

None however comes even close to the 191% growth. Cadillac comes in second with plus 35.4% and Lexus grows third-fastest with 33.8%. Lincoln currently sells the MKZ, MKC, MKX, and the Navigator in China. Sales of the Continental will count for Q4.

There are two engines available: a 2.0 turbo with 261hp and 286nm, and a 3.0 twin-turbo V6 with 378hp and 570nm. Both engines are mated to a six-speed automatic gearbox. The 2.0 is either FWD or AWD, the 3.0 is always AWD. Top trim level is the Presidential, comparable with the U.S. spec Black Label.

I thought we read that they'd dropped the "PRESIDENTIAL" nomenclature from their [BL]...

Kind of surprised they didn't throw the 2.7 in there as an in between. That's a pretty significant jump from 2.0 to 3.0 in terms of power
