Ford’s luxury brand Lincoln says that although its departed Town Car and its dated Navigator remain its most-recognized nameplates, the division’s more recently-released three letter-badged models are gaining recognition traction among consumers.

“We’re starting to see more recognition of the nomenclature,” Ford marketing manager Kate Pearce told The Detroit Free Press. “It will take time but we’re seeing the gap of recognition close between old names like Continental and Town Car and the new names.”

They still need to use traditional nameplates.

It should tell the Ford people that the old names are liked better. Half a decade of this name scheme and town car and the navigator still are more recognized.
Ford stop being in denial.

Great news. This naming system fits with the rest of the segment. I doubt that Cadillac has any plans to go back to Fleetwood, de Ville, Seville, or even Catera. The MK system has only been in place since 2009. The Navigator name has been in place since 1998 and the Town Car name was first introduced in 1958. The Continental name first appeared in 1939.

Ford should of just made the names as they were meant to be mark x, mark z, mark s.

No. I prefer to buy a Líncoln Zephyr than a Lincoln MK Z...

Actually that is incorrect... the MK system made its debut in 2007 with the MKZ and MKX, the MKS and MKT came in 2009. At first it was going to be MARK S and MARK Z as you could see with the Mark LT and the Mark S concept in 2006. The Town Car name goes back even further in fact the first Lincoln to have the Town Car name was in 1922 for a custom built Lincoln for Henry Ford and it had some small appearances on some other models for certain trims throughout the years. It became its own separate model in 1981.
