Blimp operator:
Pilot 'OK' but taken to hospital after crash at U.S. Open

ChicagoTribune-Associated Press
- Erin,Wisconsin June 15, 2017

An official with the company operating an advertising blimp at the U.S. Open says the pilot is "OK" after the craft crashed but that he is being taken to a hospital.

Justin Maynard, a sales manager for Florida-based AirSign, says the company's operations team on the ground reported on the pilot's status.

He says he has no additional information on the crash that happened in an open field about half a mile from the Erin Hills golf course in Erin, Wisconsin.

The USGA statement says the pilot is being treated for unknown injuries and that no other people were involved.

The Open, one of golf's four majors, opened play Thursday.

Maynard said the company's operations team on the ground confirmed citizen video on social media showing the blimp going down.

According to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, the blimp caught fire before hit the ground near Highway 83 and Highway 167, just outside the course.

Check back for updates.

...flyby of asteroid 2012 TC4 as it passes under Earth on Oct. 11/12, 2017
(GMT=Thursday morning // Pacific=WednesNIGHT)
. While scientists cannot yet predict exactly how close it will approach, they are certain it will come no closer than 4,200 miles (6,800 kilometers) from Earth's surface...

the Moon is over 57-Times farther away

LIVE! ...for the moment
now saying it won't come closer than 26,000 miles - roughly 10% distance to Moon's orbit

Asteroid 2012 TC4 + vid of space rock shoot past Earth
Express.co.UK
- By Sean Martin
16:33, Thu, Oct 12, 2017 | UPDATED: 16:38, Thu, Oct 12, 2017
ASTEROID 2012 TC4 is currently moving alongside Earth, and Nasa has released an amazing video of the space rock flying through the stars.

...Michael Kelley, programme scientist and Nasa Headquarters lead for the TC4 observation campaign, said: “Scientists have always appreciated knowing when an asteroid will make a close approach to and safely pass the Earth because they can make preparations to collect data to characterise and learn as much as possible about it.

“This time we are adding in another layer of effort, using this asteroid flyby to test the worldwide asteroid detection and tracking network, assessing our capability to work together in response to finding a potential real asteroid threat.”

The path of the asteroid has been described as a “close miss” by scientists as, in astronomical terms, it is just a hair’s width away.

Rolf Densing, head of the European Space Operations Centre in Darmstadt, Germany, said: "It's **** close.

"The farthest satellites are 36,000 kilometres (22,400 miles) out, so this is indeed a close miss.”

Meet '`Oumuamua,' the Strange Interstellar Asteroid That Sent Us a Message
Science.HowStuffWorks.com,
by Ian O'Neill, Nov 22, 2017

In the classic 1973 Arthur C. Clarke science fiction novel "Rendezvous With Rama," a mysterious object is detected outside the orbit of Jupiter as it rapidly approaches the inner solar system. Traveling at high speed and on a hyperbolic trajectory, the object is obviously not from our solar system; it's from interstellar space.

On Oct. 19, astronomers detected their own "Rama."

An object traveling at 60,000 miles per hour (96,560 kilometers per hour) was detected by the powerful Pan-STARRS1 telescope in Hawaii. Follow-up observations revealed that this object had already sped through the inner solar system, having made closest approach with the sun in September. It was on its way back out into interstellar space...

With its odd cigar shape, `Oumuamua doesn't exactly seem like just another asteroid. ESO/M. KORNMESSER
