For now, the Accord Hybrid has a 6 mpg advantage, and it should, having an engine specifically designed with hybrid technology in mind. Have we heard anything about Ford's plans for the next generation hybrid engine. Will they have a transmission with more gears for this?
True....Ford has announced that they are building a all new hybrid drivetrain. But with no real details. We are hoping that it would utilize EcoBoost technology and what they learned when working with Ricardo, where they used a 99hp 1.0L EcoBoost engine and hybrid system to offer 60mpg in a 2015 Focus hatch. More engine power than the Prius, and more mpg and at a cost much less($1,100 including the 1.0L EcoBoost engine) than current hybrid tech.
Then there is the the ADEPT project Ricardo and Ford are working on for diesel engine cars.
"With the ADEPT project, the research team aims to demonstrate a powertrain with uncompromised performance and less than 70 g/km CO2 emissions as measured over the European Drive Cycle, but at a projected production cost significantly lower than a comparable full hybrid electric vehicle."
