Re: nextgen Focus merged superThread

I would like to see a sporty-ish option between the regular Focus and the ST, I think they had one elsewhere that they didnt sell in the US. Plus honestly the 2.0 Ti-VCT isnt a bad motor, but something with a bit more torque would be nice.

Did you not read the article.
I was referring to the Fiesta more than the Focus.

Ford needs to find a way to deliver a profitable fiesta just like, Honda and Toyota do.

the fiesta allows for a profitable Focus, because it Raises the Focus's ASP.

I am in the market for a premium compact car with an Independent Rear suspension.

They (Ford N.A.) think and say N.A. Focus drivers are too price sensitive for such frivolous offers.

Image is of the ST-Line trim for the Focus, Mondeo & Fiesta. Also offered on the Kuga and Edge.
It does have its merits for the consumer who cannot or does not want the full on ST models, and seems to be adding sales.

What is weird about the next focus is that I haven't seen a Focus mule with an IRS in a long time.

BTW I hate Mark Fields.

just-imho, 'They' think that 'They' know 'us' much better than 'They' actually do
whereas, for other markets 'They' are more open to new thinking ( & sales )

otoh, not sure "ST-Line" is a good fit for 'us' -- could weaken "ST", since we'll stop reading at the hyphen
+ the coming sea-change of electrification...
...hmm:
S E S could stand for SportElectrifiedSedan ...crossreference: PoleStar

ps
TY for the foto, @MKII
& it gets me thinking a less-extreme TYPE of vehicle might benefit from a more 'group-resemblance'; like about-the-same wheel style & foglight style for all ST-Line/S.E.S?

The IRS might be resrved for the performance models and maybe the high spec trims with "sports suspension".

How many small cars still do not have a standard IRS?

In The C-segment, probably half don't.

VW (Golf/Jetta), Ford (Focus), Honda (Civic), Mazda (3), Subaru (Impreza) are some of the non-premium brands that currently have IRS as standard for their C-segment cars, while Toyota gives its Auris (Corolla iM) standard IRS.
It will be sad to see Ford leave this group.

The current North American Jetta was originally launched with a twist-beam rear suspension with IRS reserved for the sporty GLI, then for 2015 all North American Jettas received the multi-link rear suspension just like the models sold in Europe and other markets.

The recently discontinued Dodge Dart had IRS too which it inherited from its Italian cousin, the Alfa Romeo Giulietta.

I seem to remember VW getting ripped for the twist beam move, they decontented and cheapened up the Jetta because Americans didn't like nice compacts.

I would see if the model is selling wonderfully, and how offering two setups would not be worth reducung the line speed, but when multiple plants are involved, or plants are not at full speed, it is well worth it to offer premium models with unique setups.
