I think in the US market, the command view (high driving position) of an SUV is more important than how big the cargo area is.
I suspect this is the way Ford will head and kinda supports what Farley was saying
with "reinventing the sedan", they want to keep building cars but follow what buyers
are telling them what they want - it's a half way deal between the cars we know and
the utilities already on offer or coming in the near future.

While some may abhor the design, I think that view is now in the minority and simply
reflects the disconnect some are feeling as cars move to being more of a fringe product.
you can build the best of best RWD cars today and still go out backwards on sales if
that vehicle doesn't have enough of the essential ingredients most buyers want today.
Catering for an ever reducing performance car customer base is no longer practical.

I had to look it up and was surprised to see that the whitespace idea was floated around that far back as 1988. Wow, it even looks nice too. Clearly wrong car for wrong time. The time is now and it looks fresh today.

So is Saurago concept much different from today's Focus active?

The Saguaro looks much bigger, and more of a comparison to a BMW X4 or a 6 Series GT than a Subaru Outback or an Audi A5 Sportback.

Re: All About That Whitespace

I don't remember if I've shared this video with you guys before, but here is Savagegeese's review of the BMW 6 Series GT.

I want to show it again because I want to go into some of the details about the shape and handling of this type of car, to see if it makes sense for a mainstream automaker like Ford to jump in on.

22:20 He puts it in manual, and sport mode and it takes off like any other sports car, despite its different styling.

Interior Dimensions
Passenger Capacity : 5
Passenger Volume : ft³ 107
Front Head Room : in 39.4
Front Leg Room : in 41.1
Front Shoulder Room : in 60
Front Hip Room : in N/A
Second Head Room : in 38.5
Second Leg Room : in 40.4
Second Shoulder Room : in 57.1
Second Hip Room : in N/A

A Fusion version of this could be around $22,995 base price. They could even just use the Sport model.

Front Head Room 41.3 in.
Front Shoulder Room 55.2 in.
Front Leg Room 42.0 in.
Rear Head Room 38.3 in.
Rear Leg Room 39.2 in.
Rear Shoulder Room 54.1 in.

This would be Focus sized. Maybe $18,995 starting price?

Focus-sized at that price? It will probably never happen, not unless it was a lower-spec subcompact.
In the US, the outgoing Focus SE hatchback starts at $20,540.
I believe the crossover-ish Active models are usually Titanium-level or close to it.
The outgoing Focus Titanium hatchback starts at $24,470.

The cheaper Focus in Spain (Europe) is the hatch Trend and cost 19000€ (21000$)

Maybe it's a bit low.

How about this:

As of now, a base Focus S Trim sedan costs $17,950. A base SE hatch costs $20,540.

By association, since this type of vehicle is part sedan, part hatchback, part SUV, the price should be an average of the Focus sedan, hatchback and Escape SUV.

$17,950
+$20,540
+$23,940
________
62,430 /3

Which would be $20,810 starting price.

A Fusion sized one (6 GT sized) would be the average of the base model Edge, and the Mondeo sportback in USD.

£19,450 --> $25,810
+$29,315
________
55,125 /2

Which would be $27,565 (rounded up from $27,563 because Ford likes 0's and 5's) base.

Speaking of all the 2's, What's @2b2 been up to? I haven't heard from him in a while.
