came across a new-to-me article-blog/site about the D6cD6 side of the issue:
...Following this model (Lotus’s Variable Vehicle Architecture), it would be possible to replace every current Lincoln with a VVA-style vehicle, and add a few more. The Mustang would remain rear-drive, shift to aluminum, and have a large percentage of common parts although remaining unique, while Ford expanded its lineup with a few low-volume vehicles of its own.

If, as TrueCar CEO John Krafcik says, current U.S. auto sale numbers suggest that a “balanced” automaker needs to sell 30% of its volume in cars, 30% in sport utilities and vans, 20% in pickups and 20% in premium vehicles, the D6 platform can come none too soon to Lincoln. Ford is overrepresented in pickups, and wildly underrepresented in the premium segment. It needs a healthy Lincoln in order to have the cash flow in order to invest in future products elsewhere. Falling gas prices are fanning F-Series sales, but too large of a reliance on pickups for its revenue would place the automaker in the same precarious position it found itself in the last major market correction. It must quickly balance its portfolio. The only question is: Is D6 the answer?

saw a post:
"Guesses for Ford Performance (lineup)
as we know it now:
Focus RS
Mustang GT350
Ford GT
Raptor

Future additions:
Fusion ST
Mustang GT500
Fiesta RS

That leaves us with 7...with 5 more possible..."

that has me think '5' is practically enough for another Brand

Z, C, X, Av, __ ...

" CD6 is the new platform of cars coming from ford. It will be the Explorer a new Lincoln yet to be named and a few other cars. This will not be in 2016 but it will be the next big thing launched by ford. I am currently working on a portion of the platform for my engineering firm near detroit. It's gunna be a great thing...

... a new Lincoln that has yet to have a name released even to the teams working on it "

Sounds like we are still talking about the New Explorer and New Lincoln Aviator(remember, Ford just re-certified/registered that name) SUV. Other vehicles could be a new Flex and Lincoln MKT(needs new name) CUVs.

Forget the Flex and MKT...I'm guessing Bronco, Ranger...and new Falcon.

Re: CD7(4+3) VS D6/CD6: best guesses

The possibilities are endless. LOL

Wayne could also build more F-150s along with a truck-based Aviator (Navigator Jr.).

MAP: Ranger/F-100, Bronco, Aviator, F-150

^ yeahBUT
imhO they're realizing the DAY is Coming when only the obscenely rich and companies with a real USE (& write-off) for über-trucks will buy them
&
a real person wouldn't consider an F-150 anymore than buying an 18-wheeler For FUN

The luxury field is just so saturated right now. It's hard to justify such a gigantic investment when the demand is little. The world does not really need another luxury car brand. I suppose Lincoln will always be on standby just in case something happens to the established marques.
Lincoln is an established luxury marque and has been for longer than most luxury brands. Their lack of compelling overall product in recent years does not alter that, although it has been tarnished a bit.

I think there is plenty of room to grow in the luxury segment.

swipe ... for more/RotW A.M.P
Ford develops a B-SUV to replace the Ecosport in 1st world markets...
Ford then uses B-SUV to spawn a New compact pick up to replace the Courier in foreign markets.

this pickup, would be a hybrid, using the Experience of the Unibody on the transit to spawn a unibody Pickup with a separate cargo box. this would allow different lengths of bed, and ... would share styling and everything from the [B-or-C]-pillar forward.

Maybe.

I remember a time and have heard many people say that both Lincoln and Mercury were once a force to be reckoned with.
